About 35 miles north of Indy. Originally from western Mass. - have retained all my sports allegiances to the area, Red Sox, Celtics, etc - and of course my beloved Huskies. I may be heading out to the Lafayette area soon on a field trip to hopefully photograph some owls. :D
If my memory serves me correctly, that sounds like the Kokomo area. My dad used to be the American Legion 2nd District commander when I was little and the boundaries were Carmel to the South, Kokomo to the East, Rensselaer to the North and the State line to the West. Loved all of the parades and the American Legion BBQ's that we went to.

Why we moved to Arizona. I don't particularly like much of December, January etc. weather out here, but compared to what you guys are suffering through it verges on heavenly. Our colder days have had highs in the 50's and our overnight low has been below freezing a number of nights (and almost always in the 30's), but not all that far below freezing. Christmas is probably going to reach 70.

My thoughts are with all of you.

We've gotten slammed here in Ontario. Large portions of the highways were closed between long stretches of the highways that get you to Port Huron, Detroit and Buffalo. Also eastern Ontario to Quebec are still having issues.

Some areas have been without power. Nothing like what's happening in Buffalo. Friends of mine are going on 28+ hours without power.

Because we're on the coast, the low temperature here in Vero Beach, Fl only got down to about 34 last night and will do the same tonight. We spent all last evening covering many of our garden plants that are cold-sensitive. We'll lose some, but are hoping most will recover.
We seem to get one of these cold snaps every year now. This one is the worst in the last five years.

My daughter used to live in Kokomo. Rents that house now. She moved to Greentown, what she calls "out in the country". To a CT person the whole state is "out in the country". :)

I spoke with a friend in Buffalo earlier today. He said that he has never seen it so bad. They are used to the heavy snow fall but add to that the low temps, high winds and power outages many people are having serious problems. He said so far the death toll is 7 and expected to rise with lots of problems getting first responders to people that need help.

Yes it's unreal and sad to see. We've been lucky in Ontario that we haven't seen any fatalities. There was a large pile up of cars and trucks between Chatham and London. Thankful there were no serious injuries or fatalities in any of the crashes.

I almost feel guilty of the wonderful weather we're having here in So. Cal. You guys living in the northeast are real troopers. I don't like cold weather..............period. I was born and raised in So. Cal, but I did spend 3 years in the midwest in college and playing basketball. So I do know what it's like to live and exist in cold freezing temperatures. Not rubbing it in, just reporting. It was 81 today. Same for tomorrow, but drops to 65 and rain on Tuesday. I took my 3 year old out to ride her new bike. I had on a flannel shirt that I had to take off because it was so hot. Stay warm everyone.

Lived in Indiana for the first 20 years of my life, spent 15 1/2 years in Germany and the Netherlands, one year in Korea, and 3 years in Warren, MI during my 24+ years in the Army. I don't miss the cold weather one bit living here in Vegas. During that time in the cold weather climates I got frostbite doing a rail load of equipment going to Bosnia, plus other minor cold weather related injuries.

No need to feel guilty about the weather you are having in So. Cal. You have to deal with mud slides, earthquakes, and wild fires. I think you get your share. When I was taking my initial Structure Specialist class for FEMA in Sacramento, one of the presenters was from the California Department of Emergency Management. He referred to California as the "state of disaster." There is a reason why there are eight FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Task Forces in California.
