That's a tough choice. I'm sure RB will have mixed feeling all around about this. Same with his family. They are a close group and some will want him to play and some will want him home.

Hopefully the school can arrange to get him to the funeral and back if that's his preference and the NCAA doesn't have a problem with this choice.

Whatever this kid decides I hope people back the choice.

Anyone else watch the 30 for 30 "Youngstown Boys"?

Can't help but think of the similar situation w/ Maurice Clarett, but in that case OSU would not allow him to go to funeral because they didn't want their star player associated with a drug deal gone bad.

This is the reality for some of these players. This is why Boat said he has been working so hard at basketball. He wants to get his family out of the situation they are in back home.

I feel bad for Boat and his family. It's terrible that people do this sort of stuff to each other. I'll support whatever decision he makes.

Not to be rude, but him not being available puts a load of pressure on Napier/Samuel/Kromah and Calhoun with ULs press.

I respect his decision, and would go to the funeral myself in his situation, but it's a rough game not to have him available.

Whatever affect it has on the team having to do more on the court could be made up by the team having extra motivation to get a win for Ryan. And it puts things in perspective. There is more to life than how well a team performs.

I mean this was his cousin, and about his age, too. This is his last chance to see them for teh rest of his life, and I don't think anybody can be upset if he wants to take that opportunity.

I rarely read JJ's articles, but he had a good one about RB. If you haven't read it I suggest you do. The cousin grew up in RB's house and they were in every sense brothers.

Of course, but you have to admit this is the worst possible opponent to lose your second best ball handler against, for any reason.

Like I said, I'd go if I were him.

You were clear about supporting RB. And you are correct that there are not many teams that full court press more than Ville. Having a second incredible ball handler out really impacts the team. Not many games in which his absence could be more felt, that's definite. Maybe OK State.

I just think if he chooses to go the team has a big incentive to get a win for him. That motivation can not be undervalued.

I believe there should be some emergency funding available to get him there.

From what I've seen, Louisville's press isn't nearly as good as it was last year. I'm more concerned about how it would effect the half-court offense.

Yes, the school can cover his transportation in a situation like this one where a family member dies.

Russ Smith said himself that their press is not as effective because of the new rules this year.

Take care of your family, Boat. It isn't worth missing the funeral for one basketball game.

I agree...there are no second chances in a situation like this...you can't decide the next day that you should've been there and turn back the clock...it's too late.
