I know. Gee, I wonder if maybe a school under NCAA penalties for major violations should, I don't know, NOT try and stir shit with the NCAA.

Seems to paint the situation in a bit worse light than many of us though. All we've ever been told was that it was for plane tickets for his mother to watch him play. Of course, that is the NCAA's release to make themselves look good over the additional "suspension".

Regardless, I'm glad it's finally over.
 
I deleted a post I just made bashing the NCAA after reading the previous link. UCONN needs to be VERY careful with the recruits we bring in. We are lucky this was caught. Imagine if we won a championship and this came out later?

I said if WE won a championship, not Auburn....Auburn isn't on the NCAA sh$% list...
 
The NCAA link is still a bit incomplete but better than the NYT's article.

So:

  • The 6 game suspension was for $4,500 which included:
  1. Travel expenses for 4 official visits with Ryan (WVU, UNLV, UConn and Providence?)
  2. $1,200 to Mrs. Boatright for something (car payments?)
  3. Travel expenses (hotel, meal and training) for Ryan to Cali
So that makes sense, but what was the travel to Cali for and who are the two impermissible sources. I would bet it was AAU related. I assume one impermissible source is Reggie Rose and none are related to any of the colleges. So that's $4500-$1200 = $3,300 for 5 trips or about $660 a trip.

  • Then you have another $3500 dollars: This was for car payments
I guess this shows that Mrs. Boatright received this money from before Ryan was at UConn until sometime when Ryan was enrolled at UConn. Considering the initial allegations were in October, I think it would be fair to assume that she was receiving money for car payments before that in August/September unless she was really desperate or...

Considering the NCAA's stance it def. appears UConn had nothing to do with it at least and followed the steps needed in this case, though Boatright could have played the past three games. It also appears the NCAA doesn't believe Ryan knew about the arrangements dealing with his mother. It also appears the NCAA is more interested in Reggie Rose or the other person not known/named.

In some ways this is actually similar to Cam Newton. The NCAA is confirming Ryan knew nothing/little about what was going on aside from the trip to Cali.

If you don't think that the timeline of what occurred to Boatright wasn't done by the NCAA to turn up the heat on Boatright to get him to sing and rat out who they are really going after you just aren't paying attention.

I'm still pissed at the NCAA.
 
Still no idea who these 'sources' are. Referring to them anonymously is an easy way to make it sound nefarious. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Can't say I can blame a woman for providing for/taking interest in her children's lives even if it's against the NCAA rules.

I would not go that far. Unless the NCAA is lying, it says the source had documentation. What, did the source have bank accounts? Documentation of what? How did the source get a hold of documents? Whatever happened that aspect makes it weird. An ex-boyfriend with documents?
 
Honestly, we should thank the NCAA. This may have been the kind of event the team needed to get charged up, and now we have the bodies in the backcourt to take advantage of that fire. The run begins tomorrow!!!

My feeling has been that the NCAA should get out of the way of boosters and agents at this point. I agree with Bilas. But, it has the potential to wreck college sports. This is going to be fuel to the fire and is about to blow into a bigger story, I bet.

No, my point was that it was absurd for people to demand UConn snub the NCAA when they have the Sword of Damocles hanging over the program in the form of a tournament ban.

I guess I can't figure out what the snub is. I thought you meant the fact they recruited Boatright at all. UConn went along with the NCAA on this one. Really, if the NCAA is going to allow things such as this and Cam Newton, it's time it opened the floodgates. I can understand why Ohio State got into trouble but this kind of thing is surely going on all over the country.

I think he was referring to the people who were saying "screw the NCAA and play him anyways" or "Calhoun and Herbst should be up in arms about this publicly"

Uconn needs to be careful recruiting guys with questionable past. We already have enough things to worry about with our past penalties. It really sounds shady with the car payments and all and it is bad UCONN's name had to get dragged into this. Oh well at least RB is back and maybe we can get this season back on track.

Maybe people just sense that it cannot be quantified or captured in any precise way, but it must be embraced and intuited to get a glimpse of its wonder. Either that, or they just thought it was another mistyped word.
 
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but that NCAA release with the immunity crap sound like a way to saving some face in response to the coersion tactics that the was pointed out in that NYT article.

I'm not condoning what RB and his mom might have done, but the way they go about their business and the selectivity of their investigatios and punishments seems draconian.
