Closer review of the photo reveals that someone forgot to turn the heat on. Blanca appears to have several layers of clothes on. Paige is wearing her heaviest sweatshirt. Someone please tell Jana to tie her shoes. Blanca’s shoes do appear to be thicker than the others, but the soles are thicker to provide extra insulation from the cold.

Blanca appears to be more "expressive" than Sarah! In any language!!
Well, we'll have to see how well she COMMUNICATES on the hardwood!!!
I asked my Spanish-speaking hubby to listen to this interview. He was impressed by Blanca's maturity and the importance she places on her studies (specifically math and economics). Looks like we got a good one.

Blanca will be listed as 6-2 on the roster. It’s hard to tell with the head tilt, but Blanca looks taller than Sarah

I’d love to find that she’s actually 6’2”. It’s just not what FIBA says, and someone last year said they were the only reliable measurer of things. Another paradox is that FIBA listed Sarah last year as being taller than 6’2”. I forget the precise number of centimeters, but it amounted to equivalent to 6’2.7”. Given this photo, I think we are definitely in the realm of Hartley units, since the head tilt suggests Blanca is slightly taller than Sarah. Thus she is both taller than Sarah and shorter. Only Hartley units can account for this.

Just like Schrodinger's cat who was both dead and alive until the box was opened we have to wait till she arrives this spring to know which.

Will we even know then?

Blanca is surely a " keeper": a motor, spin moves, a handle,
blocks shots, a very nice 3/4 court pass for an assist, not to
mention "Sarah Strong" type quick hands with that steal!
I know this was a highlight video... but all that in one game??

I wish everyone could listen to her interview. She is a wonderful young lady. She talks about all the things she had to go thru growing up. She says basketball is her life and how her mother use to wake her up at 5am to go practice when she was very young, I think Uconn fans are going to lover her she is definitely in the Uconn mold. She talks about how she wants to give back to all the kids that watch her and are her fans. I think we have another great one.

Is Blanca (#11) playing point here? Wow, talk about versatile.

This is from yesterday

Not really. It's just where she happened to be in the rotation of a 5-out offense. She has excellent passing and penetration skills for a wing but I don't see her in a PG scenario.

Box Score

Campobasso won its quarter-final playoff series 2-0 against Sesto San Giovani. The 2/3 semi-final series begins next Wednesday, April 16, against Umana Reyer Venezia. Blanca had a good game: 28 min - 11 pts - FG 3/6 - 2/3 3 pts - 2 reb - 6 ast.

She looks like one terrific prospect and person, I'm very excited for her:

On another podcast they said that her first name isn't Blanca as it's used in Italian..........it's actually Blanquita.......we'll all have to find out her preference.....

I vote for Blanquita. But whatever she prefers ( as long as it’s not carol).

I think Blanquita is merely an affectionate diminutive of Blanca. It's not a different name. Lots of languages do this. In English, Elizabeth becomes Lizzie, Victoria becomes Vicky. In Korean, Jiwon becomes Jiwona, Ahin becomes Ahina. In Chinese, Yifei becomes Feifei, Buqing might become Qingqing.

They said when watching her interviews from Ecuador that's how she was referred to so I guess we should assume that's simply a local term of endearment and Blanca is what she prefers?

Highlights first game of Campobasso semi-final playoffs

Campobasso loses the first game of the semi-final playoffs. The game was tied 64-64 with 4 minutes to go by a score of 75-66. Blanca was her coach's most-used player with 30:37 of playing time. She scored, 15 pts (6/14) - 2 ast - 3 stl. Below is part of an article translated from Italian to English from the Umana Reyer Venezia website of April 15. It gave an overview of the first meeting. I really enjoyed it, and I think you will too.

The best-of-five series will require a lot of physical effort. We will have to be good at managing fatigue and rotations. All the girls will have to bring something extra: the level of concentration in every detail is what makes the difference.

We are not used to playing such close matches; we only did it last year in the championship final against Schio. It is a new situation in which we will test ourselves. It is clear that one match does not determine a series: we must have the mental strength to think one game at a time and reset immediately.

We will need a big push from the fans; the passage of the round will also depend on this.
The energy that the fans can give to the team is something that can always be seen, as happened in the last match of the men's team against Trieste. It is something difficult to find in other fields and in all the important matches we felt this support.

Campobasso is a team that defends well, with a well-defined playing identity. They have, in the role of 3, a talented player like Quinonez, who next year will play at UConn, the best college in the world. Around her there are quality players like Pallas, the fourth best rebounder in the league (10.05 rebounds on average), and players that we know very well and who grew up here: Sara Madera is the 4 of the National team so I don't think there is anything to add and Laura Meldere, who is having a great championship. They are a complete team.
