Illinois and Indiana are headed to overtime in a really back-and-forth game. Indiana led by as much as 15 in 2Q, and Illinois stormed back and led by 11 early in 4Q.
Illinois was winless in last year's Big Ten season. To get a win over Indiana here would be huge for them.
My first look at both Minnesota and Wisconsin although I was only able to watch the first half. Both teams began conference play having played poor non-conference schedules (Minn #165 and Wis #170 per Massey). Minn did have that home win over Syracuse but the #12 ranking may reflect the Whalen effect.
Whalen has the team playing hard and Bello is one impressive rebounder. The Gophers aren't a good shooting team but their hustle seems to win them a lot of extra possessions. They maybe look like a #15-20 team.
Just for kicks, I looked at the attendance figures for yesterday's Big Ten openers (I've noted the start time in parentheses, as this may have had some impact):
