Big news for Paige! Kolcanes is out! (Merged)

The day that guy walked onto the podium in a stretched out T shirt and slouched into his seat I knew the year was gone. The GM should go too. I'm thankful he is gone and that is putting it mildly. Have you seen any of the pixs of Paige -candids- of her looking at him like a bug on her plate? How do I feel you ask!

Paige is obviously the big and only draw for potential Wings coaches. Every league has it's teams that just can't get their act together and stink year after year, devouring coaches in the process. Dallas is one of those teams. I just hope Dallas can get a coach who knows what they are doing and that Wings management can put a decent team around Paige. We'll see.

Here’s a question. Paige is only 23, but she is clearly the “face of the franchise” in Dallas. If you’re Curt Miller, do you consult with her before lowering the boom on Koclanes?

For those on the BY who listened to Geno’s press conference today, he did mention that he just got a text from Paige saying, “I miss you.”

Just sayin……….

Maybe

Maybe Curt Miller hires Coach P as player-coach....

For what it’s worth, the Wings new HC will be their 14th in the 27 year history of the franchise, which also includes stops in Detroit & Tulsa. During that period the Wings have also burned through 10 GM’s.

One wonders how long it will be before Sandy Brondello is announced?
Brondello has done less with more than any coach in league history. 7 years or so in Phx, won a championship her first year with Dee, Penny, Dewanna, Brit and Candace Dupree all in their prime, and then didn't win another. I could have coached that afore mentioned team to a championship.

Then goes to NYL for 3 years with all the talent there and wins 1 championship? Can you imagine her coaching a team with less talent? They might not even make the playoffs. If Seattle wants years of mediocrity, go for it - hire Brondello. Actually, I'd love to see how badly she fails on a team with slightly above average, but not elite, talent.

I'd bet on Seattle
One way or another, she’s going to be coaching somewhere. I’m thnking Dallas because she would have Paige and presumably a stud big right off the bat. That could make Dallas an attractive destination for free agents as well. Seattle, on the other hand is pretty old I believe though to be fair, they do have a major (and young) piece in Malonga.

Geno speculated that it might have been a "butt text". Hilarious, pure Geno.

The ability to potentially improve quickly for the lower level teams has never been higher than it will be next year. The CBA and huge number of free agents means the fortunes of many teams may be altered in a big way. Dallas has Paige as a significant draw but little else from a player's standpoint.

A top ranked coach could be the second biggest draw, particularly if that coach could help lure a former player as a FA catch for Dallas. Dallas is so far down that they need to snare multiple top line FA's to be a contender right away, but this is a year where that could be possible.

I think you could see a few "package" deals, where one FA might be reluctant to go to a particular location by themselves, but they talk among themselves and recruit a couple of other top free agents to join them, completely changing the landscape for wherever they go. Dallas needs a bigger arena, along with several other teams, and obviously new nice practice facilities are part of the competitive landscape as well.

There are many factors that determine how attractive a particular destination is for players. A top coach is one of those, particularly one that could lure a star player or two.

The FA intrigue for the Wings has a lot to do with two things: the new HC and Paige. The UConn connection could be big.

I have previously suggested that someone like Tina Charles might be looking to escape the Sun for one last opportunity to win with an up and coming team. With both the Liberty & the Lynx crashing out of the playoffs, could players like Stewie & Pheesa be looking for a new start with a player like Paige who they both admire tremendously? That’s a bit of a stretch to be sure. But it’s difficult to imagine any top WBB player that wouldn’t love to play on the same team with Paige.

3 in the last 3. The buzz on the street was they we going to keep Koclanes. Knowing what I know of Paige I would not be surprised if she put her opinion on the pile.

Is it too mean to speculate what Coach Jumper could have accomplished with all this talent?

(FWIW, I actually like his insights and comments.)

Not exactly a stellar record which makes you wonder where the real problem lies. How far up the ladder shall we go? And if at the top rung where do you go from there?

Agree with everything you mention, old husky, but I would hope that whoever is making the decision on any FA's (and assume the new HC will definitely play into that significally) that they consider closely those team-first FA's (a sometimes rare commodity in pro sports) who will not be looking for a spotlight and especially those who will meld with their franchise player. However, from all of the comments here would expect her to be consulted for input - at least would certainly expect that. Any comments from those with better insight please let's hear from you.

Chris Koclanes was in a no-win situation. He inherited a team that had a 9-31 record last year, all the good players left, they brought in players that are not team players, refugees from other teams, many rookies, injuries galore that rivaled our problems a couple of years ago. He never had a chance, but with such a young team that it will be next year, lottery pick, and the potential of bringing in a couple of good veterans, the team needed a coach with experience who knows how to build a young team, especially with one of the best players in the league. I wish the Lynx would fire Reeves, because she is one of the best out there and I know a few years ago she mentioned how she loved Paige. She is a team builder, and I just wish this would come true.
