Big Five Baseball Bash time change

UConn scores five runs in the second inning through a combination of some nice hitting from UConn and shoddy fielding by Villanova.

6-0 lead and now Ward can't find the strike zone. 3 walks in the 3rd and bases are loaded and now 6-2. What is up with our senior pitchers inability to throw strikes. Both Marzi and Ward walk way to many batters.

Ward's control problems has him out of the game in the third, with Anthony Kay coming in. Despite having some control problems, Marzi has had a terrific career at UConn. He is certainly not in the same situation as Ward. Injuries, wildness, and sheer ineffectiveness have lead to Ward losing his weekend spot in the rotation in previous seasons. With Zapata and Kay around, it could very easily happen to him again. The score is now 6-5 UConn after three innings.

7-5 in top of the 5th with 1st and 2nd and David gets picked off first. Someone explain that one to me. This team's ability to kill themselves on the base paths is unbelievable.

UConn wins 7-6. Kudos to the bullpen trio of Kay, Ruotolo, and Mahaney for bringing in this win.
