Big East's Next Media Deal

amazingly, people do still care about UConn Football despite the previous horrors.

More people care about the Band "Goose" than UConn Football. Everyone has their hobbies. UConn Football fan is a fine hobby, far be it for me to judge someones hobbies. No problem there. There are definitely UConn Football fans. Just not very many. And 1/2 dont even make it into the game, the other half come in at 1/2 time.

Why would I care if anyone cared Nationally? I don't. At all. The only people who care about their team winning titles are the teams FANS. Everyone else hates it.

Well. If you care about things such as money and NIL and not having an even bigger budgetary gap with the schools we want to be peers with them maybe you should reconsider. A more well rounded athletic department benefits everyone.

Honestly, I can’t imagine a perspective that’s dumber and more counterproductive than yours.

based on the small crowds I was seeing at the end of the Ollie era, there were a lot of basketball "hobbyists" who weren't making it to games. Lets see what happens with football in the next couple of years.

UConn home games get more people than UConn basketball. Even with less than 50% of the place filled.

Your position is stupid. People do care and hope the program improves so that they can justify getting invested again.

I’m trying not fall into the trap of dissing one of our programs (Although there is no bigger waste in of resources than college soccer which is beyond useless in this era) we need all of them to do well.

Adub is seeing the world through a straw here.

Yeah I don’t count my rooting interests success and failures by budgetary gaps. And NIL has nothing to do with that either.

$5.5M and a free bagels for the women’s soccer team at Dunkin’.

I'd counter with $5.5M and no bagels. Those things from Dunkin' are an abomination to the real thing.

Indeed there were small crowds . Which is more proof that football is folly, because of the fickleness of northeasterners.

I'm definitely more of a die hard UConn bball fan than I am a football fan, but even I have to admit that I wasn't watching the team on TV and definitely not going to games during the last 2 seasons of Ollie.

I was at the Holy Cross game. Did not go back until last years BC game. I could not give my season tickets away.

New product, new era. I plan to go to a few games this year but when the product is dreadful.....like Ollie basketball as well as football you lose the non UCONN grads like me who supported the team for years. We will come back if the product is competitive.

The stadium will sell out again soon.

If we get 7 million, keep the same TV exposure (all games on linear), and stay at 11 (or add Gonzaga), I will take that.

You can’t compare apples to apples there. Football is a different animal on a grander scale. The middle of pack p4 averages 50k . Even the crap teams

If we made it to the CFP like Cincinnati did. We would be in the BIG the next day. Cheat or buy as many players as needed. We just need that one miracle season then we are set.

If you want to use the no one cares line. Let's use this one: No one cares (literally no one, not even in their own state) about UConn Football. No one goes to the games, no one watches the games. New England as a whole cares nothing for College Football. No one cares.

THAT is why we are where we are today.

Appreciate you at least dropping the pretense that you hope UConn FB does well.

We'd be in exactly the same spot with or without football, so rest assured you can smack talk the 327 Butler fans at msg this spring.

I don't know. Maybe because other conferences would pay them money to join? Or they think they could make as much money without a conference? Neither of which seems to be the case

So that’s it…. we have 1000+ pages of people discussing the topic only to have it boil down to ‘nobody wants us, we have no value’….

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays!

And when UConn wasn’t winning where we’re all the UConn BB fans?

No, they don't. Closer to 40k.

The only thing you've said that is realistic is that the region doesn't prioritize college football. That's true, and I think a huge part of why we've been left out so far. People keep thinking it's all on-field and that's just part of it. When nobody in Connecticut schedules a fall wedding on a Saturday, you'll know UConn football has arrived. Even our basketball fans whine about getting to games. The fans at some of the schools we've taken shots at over the last couple of weeks rearrange their life to get to games.

Does CT still play HS football on Saturday? I don't know, but if they do, that's telling. HS football players are your core audience and fan base. They can't be playing on Saturday afternoon.

Actually he's just trolling. August is best understood if you remember that virtually everything he posts is intended to generate responses for his own entertainment.

Perhaps, but your point was about the number of people who care. Indisputably more people go to a Connecticut football game than a Connecticut basketball game. It was a silly point to me, but that doesn't mean you get to run away from it and "move the goal post", as it were.

It’s not silly. Even at its reduced state football fans make a significant financial and otherwise investments. And more and more fans are returning.

We’ve got great basketball support too, but the opportunity in football is tremendous.

Also he’s just trolling and he needs to blow it out of his old ass.

I'm not. (though Im not averse to that) I believe I'm right. And you have been here long enough to know Im right when it comes to CR. You've been here as long or longer than me. We have had our kibitzing about CR over the years . What have I said different than I said 10 years ago?

If anyone expected anyone to attend football games in CT we shouldve built a 65000 seat house somewhere.

Yeah, but the fact that you frequently come on the conference realignment board to talk about why our obsession with it is pointless seems like a troll to me. For what it's worth, I have very little objection to people trolling because that's like 90% of the Internet. I have some objection to people trolling in aptly, but that's not you.

Yeah it’s almost like football is important or something.

Your 50k number is bs.
