UConn belongs in a southern conference?
I'm not sure that a conference with Notre Dame, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and Boston College
can be called a southern conference. (or an Atlantic Coast conference for that matter)

10 of the 15 teams are southern schools. 11 if you count Louisville.

No!!! In the ACC....the Atlantic Coast Conference. Why would you suggest otherwise?
I wouldn't. I also wouldn't pay $30 million to jump to a dead man walking conference unless it was the absolute last resort.

Do you think UConn is better served being in the BE as opposed to the ACC? If so, why? Enlighten us.

Their point is that the ACC isn't far off from being picked apart into what will likely be 2-3 main football conferences that the powers that be have been trying to create since 2004. UConn would be in the ACC for maybe 2-3 years before all the premier ACC members will be picked off to go to either the SEC or the Big 10. Maybe the Big 12 if it survives. Then, once again you'll be left in a weak basketball conference, similar to the AAC once backfill with enough teams to make a conference and you won't have the Big East to fall back on as they will not let you in again.

The future of the ACC could be a repeat of the old Big East breakup...

However, the ACC was more of a basketball conference than it was a football conference until they gobbled up a bunch of Big East football schools and Florida State.

The Big East was a basketball conference too before they went after the TV revenue football brought in. They were doing OK as a football conference until they were poached by the ACC (Miami, PItt, Boston College, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Virginia Tech), the B1G (Rutgers), and the Big 12 (West Virginia). I think I got them all. Conceivably the same thing could happen to the ACC as they could lose Clemson, Florida State, and several other schools to the growing mega football conferences. That could put a real dent in the conference revenues.

I think the teams that would be left would be BC, Pitt, Syracuse, and maybe Wake or Duke. I don't see that as a step up from the Big East on the women's side (or the mens really) basketball wise. Not to mention the teams you'd have to backfill with would make the conference significantly worse.

AD Benedict has been pretty upfront in stating UConn would be a good fit for the ACC. He’s also said he’s “working on it”.

@triaddukefan @CamrnCrz1974 Maybe we’ll get to play a couple times a year

No offense, but

Ha, MSGRET, we have different tastes in entertainment, I guess. I agree the cost factor would be significant in NYC, but there are few places, if any, that offer more things to do on basketball off-days than New York City, regardless of the time of year.
How’s the golf?
Brain Fart I meant to say Boston College, because of the lawsuits. I don't know why I said Maryland.
I still have minor farts on Maryland’s affiliation. Maybe it goes back to some bad blood in the McGwire and Lefty days when we were both in the ACC. That and I’m getting old.

Las Vegas has some of the best golf courses in the U.S., some you can play on, some are members only and then a few are privately owned by the casino's and only high rollers get on those. The NCAA is having over the next couple of years both men's and women's Div I, II, and III regional and national championships in the Vegas area. Years ago when I was in Real Estate I played on some of the best and they ate me alive, but it was fun.

Every year we move closer and closer to having Super Conferences. UCLA and USC going to the BIG Ten is an example of moves that make no sense other than making a conference bigger and stronger. The ACC has been a little behind growing their conference and adding UCONN would be great, even better if they have a football team that can compete.

The ACC is a great BB conference and has been for a long time. For UCONN it would allow them to play a more modest early schedule while they are developing their team because they will have several big match ups during conference play. I, as a basketball fan would love to see it happen and the other big plus is the ACC has their own network.

Did not want to put it in a separate thread but FWIW, a friend of mine (fellow St. John’s MBB fan) just called me to tell me there is a “a lot” of twitter chatter that Uconn is moving to the ACC. Just thought I would throw it out there.
Man, even with the improvements this season, the football team would struggle. Would be great for Women’s basketball though!

The football team would struggle for a while, but being in the ACC vs the Big East when it comes to football would be an improvement. They would also be able to recruit better players then what they are currently recruiting.

Football: eyeballs on screens and butts in bleachers matter more than quality of football play. A conference (and its network) have to want your market.

Connecticut’s 3.7 million population is smaller than any existing ACC member state, so the question would probably boil down to UConn’s share of the NY market for mbb and potential for football growth in that mega market.

Winning in football is not that important except as it relates to market share. See Rutgers.

I live in Florida and I watch the games. UConnNation doesn’t end at the Connecticut border

Nor does any schools. Heck, everybody has alums in Florida.

It’s the core of the fan base that matters in market share - other than Notre Dame and , to a smaller degree, BYU.

I keep hearing that streaming could change things. But, until then . . .

As of 2021, the six county Hartford TV market is the 32nd largest in the country, just ahead of Columbus OH media market. The rest of Connecticut, and I think where most alumni live, is part of the New York City media market which is obviously the largest in the country. Most of our games are broadcast on SNY after all. The unique thing about UConn is not only does it have its own large media market that is bigger than most of the P5 schools, but on either side of it just a stone's throw away from Storrs is the #1 and #10 (Boston) markets. You also have the #52 (Providence) and #116 (Springfield MA) markets adjoining the Hartford market as well. UConn has a desirable market with lots of people, and lots of people that have money to spend which is a demographic advertisers covet, but unfortunately that metric hasn't really mattered for at least a decade with respect to conference realignment.

Then get your football. Team to grab those eyeballs and put 50k butts in bleachers and you’re in
