Big East Tournament Thread

My preferred scenario obviously ends with us walking away with the trophy Saturday night. Within that, I would greatly prefer doing to Georgetown tonight what we should have done to them in both earlier games this year, then beating St John's as badly as we did a few weeks ago. That said, if we end up winning the next two games by a combined three, four or five points I'll still be happy.

If our winning this tournament wasn't an option, my preference (by a massive amount) would be Seton Hall cutting down the nets. The biggest reason is that Holloway is the only one of the remaining three head coaches that I like. Added to that, Seton Hall is the only BE school that played well enough pre-conference to warrant a tournament bid that isn't getting one without winning this tournament.

Georgetown may be playing loose, but it'll also be their 3rd game in 3 days. If their legs are tired, they may not be so good from 3. But we have to play better and smarter than we did in the 1st 2 games.

So are we rooting for the Q1 game tomorrow or Georgetown?
I only saw this this so it is obviously after the fact.

I was pulling for Nova. If Uconn was not assured of being in teh tournament I would have beeen pulling for for Gtown.

Would have thought a Uconn - Nova would have been a better game.

NYT Games on point this week!

Georgetown's win is the worst thing for us. Not saying we lose to them or that they are better. I am, however, stating as a matter of fact we play down to the level of the competition. I wanted to face Nova badly.

They get 4,000 people to a home game. And I wonder how many Hall/SJU fans will stick around after their game to root against us. I would imagine the winning fans will head out to celebrate and that should be a sizeable chunk of the crowd.
Still expecting us to have a good showing. St. John’s fans need to be put back in their place.

If UConn played the first game and won I’d 100% stay for the second game so long as it wasn’t a blow out. If they lost I would leave immediately. So id expect the winning fanbase to stick around for the second game. I don’t really think seton hall fans will root against us nearly the way St. John’s fans will

Does this imply that Nova is as good as, or a better team than us? Because that's what your post basically implies!

Completely agree.

Would love UConn to win it all. But if not - then it should be Seton Hall.

Georgetown, even if they are hot right now, does not deserve a bid.

A couple tidbits about tonight's game:

- 1st BET meeting between UConn & GTown since 2011 (2nd game in the Kemba 5 wins in 5 days run)

- Last UConn loss to GTown in the BET was 1990-91. UConn has won the last 5 meetings at MSG (1995, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2011)

Then why was last nights game over 5 minutes in?

Seton Hall fans, if they win, would be rooting against us hard not because they hate us but because it would make their winning the tournament and the auto bid much more likely

While ESPN has given up any pretense of objectivity and shamelessly promotes mediocrities like Missouri and SMU, Seton Hall will have a decent case against the other bubble dreck if it beats St. John’s.

It may come down to who CBS wants in the tournament.

He started off the year on the bench and if it wasn’t for DHS taking a leave of absence and Langston Love battling an injury he may have not played at all.

Cooley shook things up one game and found something then rode with it.
Yeah, I watch a lot of Big East basketball. Mulready was almost an after thought until late January. Until then he was getting meager playing time.

I agree that beating St Johns and then losing to us puts them squarely on the bubble. And while I'd rather beat St. Johns in the final if I'm guaranteed of beating them, I'd take the championship over the Pirates in a minute.

Have to give credit to Cooley for giving Mulready the space to make that happen.

Even with Julius, they’ve had every reason to bring him off the bench and limit his minutes this season. In this big time moment he finally rewarded Cooley for sticking with him.

Love seeing that kind of stuff in basketball. Georgetown can be a dangerous team next year if they can retain the players they’ve worked on developing throughout this year with a few tweaks.

I want to crush Georgetown, and then beat whoever. I don't care about #1 or #2 seed. Either UConn wins its next 8 games, or it doesn't. Playing a low major vs. a really low major next Thursday is not going to make a difference.

Jacob Dar was incredible in the second half for Seton Hall. He was everywhere on D and 16 points in 15 minutes off the bench I think.

Didn't even play against us in last game and only 3 minutes in first game.
