Big East Stuff: Weekly Honors 2/2 Allie wins Player of the Week Honors

Happy for Allie, who besides the unbelievable Xavier game did well in the second half of the Tenn game with 10 pts on 3-6 FG%. Given the "degree of difficulty" I would have selected Azzi who had a phenomenal game yesterday who was instrumental in the win as the keystone whereas Allie was 5th or 6th supporting cast member. Azzi didn't even get an "Honor Roll" mention. Sarah did her usual "Sarah stuff" and deserved to either win the award or be on the list like she was.

Mostly I am irritated that Azzi didn't get an HM. Why the conference would not be touting that effort especially against another conference like the SEC is mind-boggling to me.

Allie showed that she has spunk - "courage and determination."
She could have stopped shooting those 3's to tie the UConn record but she didn't, she just kept shooting & defying the odds.
She's very worthy of the BE recognition.

I get the arguments in favor of Azzi and Sarah, but I am overjoyed that Allie got the Big East Player of the Week.

As Ash said, her game against Xavier was "the greatest thing ever"!

Well ok that's an exaggeration, but 10 threes off the bench and the most points by a UConn player off the bench in the history of the program are certainly deserving of recognition, and she had some special moments (especially the three to end the third quarter) in the Tennessee game as well.

And I like it when a "role" type player gets recognized, kind of like when Nika won Big East DPOY for the first time.

She hit Serah with a no look pass through traffic in the second half of the Tennessee game while driving along the left baseline, Serah missed the shot, but the play tells a lot about Allie's game, over and above her ability to shoot it (48% from three this year). Opportunistic, heady, sees the floor, quick enough, and good at driving especially with her left hand.

It's for the whole week, so she was hurt by a so-so game against Xavier when she was not feeling well. Sarah had two strong games and Allie had a fantastic one and a good one.

I think when I look at the other HM's on the list, I look at their competition and go "Meh", whereas with Azzi in a Nationally Televised game of noteworthy conference importance, she shined. Adding her name to the list for other media centers to pick up upon, would certainly have been the savvy thing for the BE conference to do. As the pregame introduction states by Sue Bird and Geno, it is not "how to" but "when to" that defines you. Azzi accomplished that yesterday.

You don't have to sell me on the second-best player in the country. That doesn't change the fact that she was sick during the Xavier game and was well below her usual standard.

What are the dates for player of the week and freshman? Monday to Sunday? Sunday to Saturday? Was Tennessee game considered for the current awards? Is it part of next week's awards?

I see the write up does include mention of the Tennessee game as included. So I guess it is indeed Monday to Sunday.
