Please explain to me; How in the world does CVS keep sucking first-rate talent over the event horizon and into the black hole that is RU women's basketball? Do these high-school stars not have eyes to see? Does she have some kind of gris-gris that makes recruits blind to the obvious? It seems an impenetrable mystery how she does it, year after year.

"gris gris" is that some kind of pheramone? Anyway, I checked out the RAC board game string on the RU -Zags debacle because there are a number of analytical, classy participants on that board and I wanted to see their take and they are deeply disappointed in the class of 2008 and realize coaching of offense has to improve, etc. I have admiration for the way they have taken the situation and looked at it analytically and with civility for opposing views.

CVS and her bloated salary for her results are a real problem.

Mentioning the unmentioned game: The delicate flowers that are Brittany Mallory and Natalie Novosel combine for one personal foul today.

As an RU fan, I will attempt to answer your question. Vivian is well respected by many and is a good role model for young women. Some parents are attracted to her values and reputation and want their daughters to play for her. Some of these high school stars believe they can help her win her first national championship. While I certainly would like to see RU play better offensive schemes and get back to the level we were a few years ago, I don't consider our program a black hole.

That CVS has continued to recruit superior players in recent years is a myth IMO. Sykes, Speed, Dixon, Canty and Laney all got rave reviews coming out of HS but none of them approached players like Ajavon, Carson, Prince, Pondexter etc. Whether that is a function of the recent players not developing at RU or being over rated as recruits is difficult to say, but there is no question that they have not come close to performing as well as the players from earlier years.

You opinion is certainly valid.. I have to agree with you 100% about Speed and Sykes, but IMO it is too soon to tell about Laney and Canty. Dixon had a very good season last year at UCLA, but didn't play this year due to injury. She was only at RU for one semester, so it would be hard to determine if she would have been a productive player if she stayed at RU. Pope hasn't been a star at Baylor either and must still have a bit of an attitude as Kim recently benched her for a game.

I don't know how much more time you have to give Laney and Canty. Maybe you have seen them do good things this year, but I certainly have not in the 6 or 7 RU games I have watched, and if they don't show something in a full season, my opinion is it's simply not there, unless there is some unusual issue like an injury.

Laney was selected to the Big East all freshman team, so someone besides me must have seen something good about her play. Canty started off better than she finished. She played decent D, but struggled to make baskets - even lay ups. She did miss a couple of games late in the season due to some type of leg injury. Neither of them were or will be at KML's level, but who is?

I know she played a lot of minutes, and apparently she averaged 6.1 points and 3.9 rebounds, so I guess you could say she did some good things I did not see. Because honestly I don't recall seeing her ever score a point.

I understand. She did play quite a few games where she did not score, but interestingly enough, she scored 8 points in 32 minutes against UConn in our regular season game. She also is the one Vivian usually uses at the top of the 55 or to guard the inbound pass because of her quickness and length. She is pretty good defensively, which is the most important thing to Coach Stringer. Like most of our players, she needs to improve on offense.

So to just break in and get back to the original thread for another moment, BEast 7-1 after first round. That's worth a yowza. Sadly one of the members will be cheered for the last time as WVU heads on to greener slime pastures, but if any sport is less affected by the conference reshuffling, it's WCBB. PAC is the percentage leader at 2-0, but we're not far behind.

I can see a very realistic scenario where only 2 Big East teams will reach the Sweet 16. ND & UCONN are in..... I could see the rest of them losing. Should be some good second round matchups.
Yes, it could happen, but we only need one of the other five to win to not have only two, and while I don't see WV winning, I think we have a decent chance among some of the others.

I see 3 making it...... Wouldnt be surprised if only 1 made it. I can also see a scenario where all ACC teams are done for the season after Tues night. I think Miami goes down to Gonzaga.... Ga Tech and Georgetown... i would favor GaTEch. If its Duke and Vandy... I could see us losing..... If its Duke and MTSU..... I think we make it. Maryland has the best chance.....

My odds... Maryland 90 %

Duke 95% vs MTSU ..... 55% vs Vandy

Miami 50%

Ga Tech 62.5 %

Unofficial of course. Subject to change :D

 Went according to I thought...

Concerning the big east..... i knew UCONN and ND were locks.... I picked St Johns to lose.... but they showed some grit over there in Norman. Should be a good game in Fresno.

Playing having to play StJ right now should be very cautious.

There was a reason I had a Sooner Schooner painted on my forehead last night, while singing "Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plain" :p

Unfortunately, Oklahoma was not OK last night.

On the other hand there is a reason that StJ was able to beat UConn on its home floor, too. St.J is easily over looked but they are a very good team at this point in the season.
