Big East Portal Additions

Big East is being aggressive and picking up some great prospects.

Goodman nailed it on the Field of 68 today. The Big East teams know exactly what their rev share is because it's the biggest sport at each school. P4 teams that are only getting 25-30% of that because of football (which is almost all of them) are a little unsure of what their exact budget is.

Now, you have NIL which can go above and beyond rev share. But that needs to be approved by a 3rd party.

So you are a player/agent. A Big East team is offering you 2.5 million guaranteed. A Big Team ten offers you 3 million, but they have to combine it between rev share/NIL, or all NIL. That money can't be guaranteed unless it is approved by the 3rd party, which will take time. Which offer are you taking?

Right now players and agents are taking the guaranteed money.

Regarding football, I think it is just eating most of the budget because it goes first. Schools have to make a decision to allocate a portion for basketball, or it will get almost entirely absorbed by the football program in the winter.

This dynamic that Goodman cites above is effectively a loophole. The Big East boosters are funding the schools to pay these player salaries, and since it doesn't have to go through the NIL audit, it can go through the school and be guaranteed. The "Revenue Share" is a dollar salary cap, not an actual split of revenue. The schools have a cap of $20.5 million a year, which the football schools have to split with two sports. While they certainly have more revenue from TV, they have a lot of expenses for football.

I would be surprised if the NCAA does not close this loophole at some point, although I am not sure how they would do it, because some schools like Purdue and Kentucky would likely prefer a bigger basketball share than other schools.

Yeah, no. I don’t care enough about what you want to answer any of these.

Yale grad-transfer, Samson Aletan, has committed to Providence, his agent Matt Slan tells DraftExpress

I have watched a ton of Aletan and that is a guy who will get chewed up and spit out in the Big East. Think Samson with worse touch, poor positional rebounder for his size, and no handle. Don’t see this one being a big add

I think the plan is backup 5. Over the past 3 years, there has been too big a drop off when the starter was out. The transfer haul is great on paper. The team on the floor needs a starter quality center to succeed on the court.

The Georgetown moves are all kind of baffling. Moving from KJ Lewis and Malik Mack to Elmarko Jackson and Jaland Lowe seems pretty neutral, and there aren't many other rumors right now. Georgetown has an intriguing Brazilian guy who will probably play a lot, but the roster doesn't seem any closer to the tournament bubble than it was a month ago. Maybe Cooley will find a way to bring a star 4 who will make a bigger difference

Cooley/Georgetown moved from KJ Lewis?

I think Malik Mack pretty much sucks so it wouldn't be weird to move from him.

I watched Tulsa in person for the Final NIT Championship game when in Indy to see UConn and this guy didn't really stick out. They had a super athletic PG, Tylen Riley, who has eligibility and forward who was a SR. and leading scorer. It looks like Auburn who beat them in OT in the championship game was really high on Riley too. Great on the ball defender that really could penetrate and jump out of the gym. Wish he wouldn't mind being a backup to Demary. LOL!

I'd imagine Kansas fans think he was a complete bust.
really? the knee injury didn't help but he's not really good, but that 2023 HS class as a whole was a mess
Certainly wasn't as expected. Injury was an issue and he couldn't seize a starting spot. But he has some talent and will be motivated. Defends well and will probably fit in Cooley's system. I don't expect him to break out and become what was expected, but he can play and Georgetown needs a lot.
