Big East OOC thread '25/'26

Marquette is really bad.
I didn't think they'd be great, but this is shockingly bad. I still do not know, after watching him for three years, how you can roll out Ben Gold as you're BE starting center.

Georgetown looks brutal. I had no idea Malik Reneau was at Miami but he’s got one less point than Georgetown this half.

This is going to be two dudes in a row for Gtown - they kinda felt like they were smoke & mirrors. Reneau is a beast, wherever he was going outside of Mike Davis, you knew he was going to be really good.

Which BE team actually wants the second BE bid?

They're down their starting center, so obviously it hurts. But they were overrated by the public for beating a pretty bad team and winning a close game at home against a decent team.

Totally - MD is not good, at all. They also beat Kentucky in the preseason, but not sure how much to invest in that.

Disappointing day overall.

Winners: UConn, DePaul, Xavier, Butler
Losers: Georgetown, Providence, Marquette

Overall: 55-25 (12-20)

Very disappointing day, but my day was made when UConn won. Some of these other Big East teams need start carrying their own weight in representing the Big East in these OOC games-it can't just be UConn doing everything.

Depending on the results of tonight's LSU/Drake game, the BE will either have 17 or 18 P4 games left. To finish over .500, the league needs to win 13 of them. That is an uphill battle, but not impossible if us and St. John's sweep.

P4 games remaining by school (my projected record in such games):

UConn: 3 (3-0)
St. John's: 2 (1-1)
Creighton: 2 (1-1)
Marquette: 2 (0-2)
Villanova: 3 (1-2)
Georgetown: 1 (0-1)
Butler: 1 (1-0)
Seton Hall: 2 (1-1)
Providence: 0 (N/A)
Xavier: 1 (0-1)
DePaul: 0 or 1 (N/A)

Other notable non-P4 games:

Villanova vs. Temple
Villanova vs. Philly Six opponent TBA
Butler vs. Boise State
Providence vs. Rhode Island
Xavier vs. Missouri State
DePaul @ Wichita State

Very good chance we're underdogs at Kansas (KenPom has them by 1), so projecting us for 3-0 is hopefully true but possibly optimistic.

BYU Dayton game is awesome. Dybantsa keeps getting doubled, Richie Saunders is cold blooded.

Week ahead (P4 in parentheses):

Monday:
Villanova vs. Temple
Xavier vs. St. Francis (PA)

Tuesday:
Butler vs. Eastern Michigan
Providence vs. Fairleigh Dickinson
Marquette vs. Valporaiso
UConn at Kansas
Creighton vs. Nicholls

Wednesday:
Seton Hall vs. CCSU
Georgetown vs. UMBC

Friday:
UConn vs. East Texas A&M
Xavier vs. Cincinnati

Saturday:
Providence vs. Rhode Island
Marquette @ Wiscsonsin
Butler vs. Boise State
Seton Hall @ Kansas State
St. John's vs. Ole Miss

DePaul vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Sunday:
Georgetown @ North Carolina
Creighton @ Nebraska

The goal is to go 5-2 against the P4 and undefeated against everyone else.

DePaul doing DePaul things. A loss to LSU (undefeated, but hasn't played anyone of note) is one thing; but to be down more than 30 at halftime is a bad look for the conference.

5 of the 7 on the road, 1 cross-town "home". It would be incredible to go 5-2. Betting odds is probably 2-5.
We aren’t winning most of these. Best chance is UConn at Kansas and StJ vs Ole Miss. SH vs Kst a maybe. We are losing the others. 2 sounds like a conservative hopeful.
