I do this every year. We are going to keep track of the fortunes of the Big East as a whole OOC.

The league plays 121 OOC total.

Here are my bids by win total projections:

97-24: 7 bids
92-29: 6 bids
87-34: 5 bids
82-39: 4 bids

Tomorrow the games begin. The goal (unrealistic) is 100-21.

We also need to have a winning record against the P4 overall.

UConn and St. John’s both badly need to be 10-1 or 11-0 OOC to carry the league.

Two big games between Monday and Friday.

Nova vs BYU
Georgetown vs Maryland

The goal should be to at least split.

If either win, they immediately go on the right side of the bubble.

Mitchell might be the X Factor for that team. He’s everywhere.
SJU is very athletic with guys mostly in between 6-4 and 6-7. They are switching on every screen on defense and forcing 1-on-1 play.

Hopkins looks slimmer and quicker. I don't know about his perimeter shooting ability if that has improved.

Doesn’t help that QU is tiny and can’t shoot

Why would Amari Monroe choose this experience? Lmao

Nova looks totally out of sync. Acaden Lewis sighting since he was a former recruit for us.

Nova can't hit 3 into the ocean right now.

I'm expecting this to be an easy 20+ loss. And it's not because BYU looks that good.

Nova showed some grit in their close loss to BYU. I guess Willard put Askew in the starting lineup to stabilize things and take the load off Lewis. But Askew is coming off a knee injury and didn't look good. The Jeffrey kid looked promising, as did Lindsey. Their front court is limited.

Apparently another key wing, Zion Stanford, is out with an ankle injury but should help.

All in all, if I'm a Nova fan I'm encouraged but realistic. At least Willard can coach.

Creighton looks great offensively, but they will have to adjust their defense this year. Like a lot of people predicted.

Remaining games through Sunday (P4 games in bold):

Tonight:
Xavier vs. Le Moyne

Tomorrow:
Georgetown @ Maryland
UConn vs. UMass Lowell
Seton Hall vs. Wagner
DePaul vs. Stonehill

Saturday:
St. John's vs. Alabama
Providence vs. Virginia Tech at Mohegan

Butler vs. IU Indianapolis
Villanova vs. Queens

Sunday:
Marquette vs. Indiana in Chicago

It goes without saying that the league needs to go 6-0 against the tomato cans (I must say the league seems to be getting the memo to schedule bad Quad 4 games because I am not even remotely sweating any of the those six games).

I think the league can go 4-0 against the P4 here and it would not be a miracle.

St. John's must win, and I really think we need to go 3-1 here.

Looking through the following week, the league only scheduled two questionable opponents: Seton Hall is playing Fairfield at home (Fairfield almost beat Penn State last week and has a middle of the pack D1 basketball budget) and Xavier is playing Santa Clara at home (Santa Clara is a perennial 20-win program in the WCC).

Not really sure what Pitino was thinking here scheduling a potential top-100 team that can realistically be a Quad 3 loss.

Edit: he also scheduled a decent Old Dominion team who is also middle of Division 1 quality and Missouri State from C-USA. He needs to fire his scheduler.

Goals for the league OOC:

Get 5 teams in the field (stretch goal is none have to play in Dayton).

Win at least 52% of OOC games against P4.

No losses to teams outside of Gonzaga, P4, Dayton, or MW.

Xavier and Nova both need to beat Old Dominion and Xavier needs to beat Santa Clara and Missouri State.
