Zubi and Hopkins has 36 of St John’s 44 points.

On mostly one on one taking their guy scores. Really curious how this roster of portal mercenaries with no PG turns out this year.

Seems like a terrible idea, but let's see if Pitino has some magic up his sleeve.
 
It's crazy how badly the Bama guards are outplaying the Johnnies guards. How are Sanon, Sellers, and Jackson this bad? They're all proven high major guards and they're getting wrecked defensively and doing nothing offensively. Bama's guards are outscoring the St. John's guards 37-6.
 
I can’t stand Hopkins game. Drive into defenders and fling it off the rim, get your foul shots.
 
This SJU-Bama game is fast paced track meet. Think like UConn in the 90s and 2004 team.

SJU overly reliant on Zuby and Hopkins.

Kansas losing Philon as a decommitt due to Harris staying in college forever and getting older guys in the transfer portal was a big whiff

I said their defense would need work at best. I just didn’t see it. And that kind of what happens when you don’t have a pg. They’re insanely talented. They need someone to step up as a table setter

It has nothing to do with not having a point guard. Their offense is fine. The Bama guards get by the St. John's guards every single time and whenever Bama misses they get the offensive rebound.

St Johns pretty much getting all their points in transition this half.

It seems clunky. Could be early season. They do have 12 assist as a team, but only 1 in the second half. They also have only generated 9 3 point attempts. They’re supposed to have shooters this year. You need guys to get paint touches and spray. They’re getting paint touches and shooting.
 
I love Dave Sims calling the games. His enthusiasm is fun and funny like an older uncle. It's appropriate for some plays and over the top on other plays. A guy can do a routine dunk where he barely gets off the floor and he will say, "Whoa he soared to the rim like Air Jordan!".
I will show him one of my drawings that is a few levels above a stick figure and he will say, "Whoa this looks like a modern day Picasso".

I don’t think you’re beating a Nate Oats teams shooting 2-9 from three. They need more attempts
 
Hopkins is slimmer and quicker than when he was at PC, but his outside shot is still inconsistent.
St. John's is having trouble with PnR- the on ball defender is over playing the pick side.

This is a banger of a game. The fans at MSG are getting their moneys worth. High profile games at loud MSG is good for the sport. These OOC games among P6 teams is good for the sport.
