The year before that it was they had no lateral quickness. You do wonder when these kids catch onto the shtick and it becomes white noise.
But it's a completely new team outside of Ejiofor so they couldn't have tuned him out already.

No better example.

I'm amazed and the amount of euro centers in college hoops. We need to get our hands on these guys. Where did UM's come from prior to UCLA? UNC has one, AZ has one, UM has one, Illinois has one. Florida has one from Australia. We need to really start tapping this international 5 man network.
Yes!!!
I'm still waiting for our first Lithuanian. 😉

Reibe out of the US HS world. I think these other guys are coming straight from. I wouldn't know the first thing about how you tap that pool. All I know is we should start doing it - doesn't seem the American centers are all that deep annually.
Reibe moved by himself to Germany at 14 to play with a club team and then he moved by himself to Maryland for his last two years of high school.

Reibe is going to be a beast as soon as he realizes how big he is.

The Michigan team has all the looks of a NC contender. They are big, and skilled. They are top tier based on what I'm seeing here. May is a great coach too.

Don’t trust Cadeau. Need guards to win in march. They’re gonna win a lot of games though

One thing he is is an effen Husky.

He looks a tad slow and clunky to me so far. He feels like he need a full year of college level fitness development.

Make sure he's good though. Remember the Lithuanian player we recruited from, I think, Brewster who ended up going to Stanford? Yeah he sucked.

I think he's good enough - he's definitely not a bad PG. It's the other 4 that are the real problem.

St John’s is a tough watch.

Sellers is good but had a tough shooting night but the rest of the backcourt kinda sucks. Darling is the pour man’s version of Diarra being forced into a starting role last year when he’s better suited to be a backup. Sanon is a JAG, not sure what the hype is there. Ian Jackson is a bucket but when you factor in his 3-4 turnovers per game and the fact that whoever he’s guarding scores twice as much as he does he’s a huge net loss too.

Between UMich and Purdue the Big 10 could have two 1 seeds this year.

This is not a good use of numbers, yikes. The vast majority of top 30 teams will have good offenses. If teams only played good offenses their defenses numbers would be shit.

And he's comparing raw D ppp vs. adj defensive efficiency. Mississippi Valley St is the only team that gave up 1.23 ADJUSTED efficiency. A lot more teams gave up raw 1.23 ppp. And if teams only played top 30 teams, I imagine a large percent would give up 1.23 raw ppp.

Using Torvik, St. John's adjusted def efficiency against those teams is 1.05. About 200 teams had worse numbers than that last season against full schedules. (Edit this might only include 2 of the games, I think the regular Torvik stats are updated but not the sorting stats).

Just curious. Why should anyone here feel any pain about Texas continuing to underperform?
No P4 gets any sympathy. We should all pull for Chaminade!
I didn't say anything about feeling pain for Texas. I was simply stating how much their first round loss hurts when they have to play Chaminade next.

Sometimes rosters just fit and sometimes they don't. Look at Kansas the past couple of years. All those expectations and veterans and they never really looked good. No hype this year other than Peterson who has been out and this group looks like a much better group.

Face it….,once again it’s up to UConn to carry this disaster of a conference
We’ve had a couple teams like Butler and SH over perform, but let’s be real, they aren’t making a mark on a national level. StJ showed they are a mess, will likely fall out of the top 25. Our other preseason top 25 team is flat out bad. It’s leading to zero star power in this league.

I know sizzle loves tracking this mediocrity. I don’t really care if Butler beats Virginia. I like to see our top teams beat theirs, and right now we look like the only team that qualifies as a top team.

As I said two years ago - trending much closer to a glorified Atlantic 10 than a P4. I know we’re stuck here and need to make the most of it.

Praying there is a plan to get us the hell out of this mess.....it's only going to get worse

I hear your point, but Butler beating a team like Virginia, and Seton Hall beating NC State helps the conference, especially when the Big East and ACC are competiting for spots.

To do what? Maybe help us squeeze a 4th bid, for a team that loses in the first round? Very little to be proud of with this conference anymore. It feels shot.

Maybe these mediocre wins help our metrics potential a bit, but this league has absolutely zero sizzle at this point. StJ looking absolutely pathetic is a drag. Sorry but I’m not getting pumped because Butler and the Hall don’t look as awful as expected, lol. It’s become a bonified second rate conference.

Right now there are 7 BE teams in the top 75 of KenPom, with two teams just outside of it at 78 and 80. Beating a top 75 team on the road is a Q1 win.

I am not arguing that the BE has been a disappointment, and not just this season. I guess I just don't care who is good, as long as we have decent teams in the league. Having it be a 5 bid league vs a 3 helps with metrics, seeding. Ultimately we all want to be a 1 seed this year. The conference having better performances from GTown, Butler, Seton Hall and Villanova helps.

I have nothing to base this on but I’ve always thought (hoped really) that Benedict has an emergency button ready to go to move basketball and Olympic sports to the ACC/XII while keeping football independent. Clearly that’s not the preference but in case of a doomsday scenario, maybe that happens.

You’re telling me we are above average in mediocrity. All those teams, even if they make it, won’t be better than an 8 seed. Sure I’d like our metrics to be as good as possible, but this league is for the birds. StJ was the one team to bring something to the league this year and they are 0-3 against KP top 30.

Wouldn’t that be nice. I’d take that deal in a heartbeat vs sitting in this sinking ship of a conference. It’s one thing to be mismatched when the other programs are good, and we have regional ease and rivalries. It’s another when they are all going south.

After this week, UConn will be the only basketball program ranked in the top 25 in both men’s and women’s hoops.

Michigan is giving UConn 2023 vibes. Not sure about their roster composition, but a team thought to be a fringe contender coming out and stomping people to start the year...
