Big East November '25 Thread

Purdue blowing out #15 Texas Tech. #23 Wisconsin didn't belong on the same floor with BYU. The portal/NIL/Europe influx has really made for top heavy college hoops seasons. Last year no one belonged on the same court as the four 1 seeds. And the tournament was chalk. This year there's like 10 teams that can reach a different gear, another 10 that are pretty good, and than everyone else. It' why you see so many awful P4 schools losing to mid majors. All the talent is on like 20 teams nationwide.
Amen. And it's all been orchestrated by the SEC and B1G. Make it about the money starting a few years ago with "full cost of attendance" payouts, and progressing through NIL to revenue sharing.

Next is expanding the field to 76 and doing away with every conference champion getting an auto bid. More "shares" for the big money schools and fewer non-P4 getting in to the tournament.

All the younger fans better enjoy where we are today because we're doomed as an independent and member of the Big East if the trajectory doesn't change and/or the rest of the league fails in the portal.

Fairly accurate. It really couldn’t have been more chalk than last year.

This year the short list of NC candidates is:

Purdue
Illinois
Alabama
Houston
Duke
UConn
Arizona
Louisville
Florida
BYU

Then there is a second group of about 6-8 teams.

STJ
Michigan
Kentucky
Texas Tech
Gonzaga
UNC
Arkansas

If the final 4 didn’t come out of this group I’d be shocked.
I don't see it with Florida, Illinois, or Arizona.

Khan or Smart? Can you offer more clarity in your question, Shaka doesn't coach PC or Butler.
He's a Marquette fan, I figured he would get my question.

I'm wondering what is going on with Shaka and why he refuses to use the portal when it's clearly doing real damage to the program. They have a lot of resources for basketball and he's being unbelievably stubborn.

What is going on with Shaka?
I believe Shaka is going to have to abort his take one or no transfer stance. He needs to take at least a couple transfers a year and blend them in with theirs holdovers to be successful.

Will he? That is the question.

Xavier does knock off West Virginia, good day for the Big East with another power conference win.

Xavier actually beating a P4 team. Could be a Sunday for miracles.

There will be some rocky games early in every season going forward across basketball. These players are just meeting each other. Some teams will gel quicker, and some will take more time.

I'm worried he won't, it looks like you may already have all your guys accounted for next season. 3 true freshmen and 2 redshirts.

It is hard to draw too many conclusions, other than the gap between the top 5 conferences and everyone else is enormous.

The American looks like a one bid league, and the A10 and MWC will be lucky to get 2 teams in the dance based on how they started. The Big East is probably the 4th best conference, but that could translate to 6 bids. We will see.

#14 SJU v #15 ISU is A big game for the BE. SJU up 1 at HT. Winner plays Baylor
Schedule pre determined, St. John’s plays Baylor and Creighton plays Iowa St. no matter who wins today.

St John’s not carrying their water. 0-3 against Bama ISU and Auburn. Might not even be ranked next week. They remind me of Kansas from a year or two ago. A bunch of high priced mercenaries that don’t fit together. Sum is less than the parts.

Seton Hall just embarrassed #23 NC State out in Maui.

Hall is 5-0.
Very connected team. Multiple ball handlers. Great team defense. Coach Holloway did a great job finding diamonds in the rough who fit together well. They will be tough. Kind of like a moneyball team

They will be strong in the Big East before being eliminated over the first weekend of the tournament. So predictable.
