Big East Games Thread - March 1

The BE has a ref problem. Some teams benefit from a ref problem, others suffer. UConn? Guess.

Tonight's feel good story.

PC used up its karma with Fonts getting his point on the board in the Friars' second-to-last home game ... against UConn.

Refs just called a shooting foul because DePaul intentionally fouled up 3 and the PC shooter threw up a shot right before the contact. Good call, that’s a shooting foul 100% of the time :)

No worries, as Bensley Joseph misses the first 2. Intentionally missed the third, refs inadvertently blew the whistle (looked like the loose ball was going to PC), possession arrow goes to DePaul and game ends

Cluster
How the hell does a referee “anticipate” that the ball isn’t going to hit the rim? Guy couldn’t think outside the box and just wait for the ball to not hit the rim before blowing the whistle. BE refs suck.

It's baffling because that ref who called that is usually very good

There is no good answer other than he made a massive unacceptable mistake in the most important possession of the game

It’s DePaul and Providence so at the end of the day not a big deal, but imagine if that was a game for teams contending for real BET seeding? Jeez

St Johns/Marquette is (obviously) fun so far. Marquette just went ahead 2 after a Kam Jones 3 and Chase Ross punched down a fast break windmill

.-.
Marquette playing well. Speeding up the game and up 8 and then St. John's scores the next 8.

Before the UConn game, I will say "we are Marquette". I am pulling for them

St. John’s gets away with A LOT of pushing and checking that I don’t think is gonna fly in the NCAA tournament. They get a lot of offensive rebounds not from being in the right spot, but from clearing guys out and not getting called for it. RJ Lewis is a nice player, but they’re really not anything great of offense besides him. We should be able to take these guys out if we can both get to the BET finals.

Marquette hanging in there up 2 with under 12. Jones is shooting it well this game. I can't believe he is a 30.5% shooter from 3 this year. This game is super physical.

On rebounds, especially defensive rebounds, they are over the top (no calls) pushing guys out of position (no calls) and only if they hit the hands of Marquette player rebounding they got one whistle. Off ball calls will be in the NCAA not Big East

How do we know the reffing will be different? I heard this a lot here but what is the evidence?

I'm watching St John's pressure Marquette's inbounder with the defender"s toes over the line and refs aren't calling it.

Marquettee up 2 with under 4 timeout. Cam with an unreal shot over the St. John's big. Going down to the wire.

Marq has one of the more likable rosters. Jones, Ross and Joplin are hard not to root for

Not sure if it will be, but traditionally it has been. Pittsburgh went through that for years. Were over the top physical and got away with it in the Big East, then ran into an officiating crew who called everything. They would get frustrated and inevitably lose the game. St. Johns plays great defense, but can be overly physical. Will be interesting how the games are called.

Marquette just killing themselves on the line.....If they make 75% FTs they would be winning this game.

Agreed. That whole team is home grown...I think that's a large reason Hurley respects them so much.

Wow Marquette with the ball up 1 with 28.9 s left vs St. Johns…great game

Marquette misses another FT for his team and St. John's score. Now going to OT.

Overtime. Ben Gold stinks, he cleared out the Johnnies player with an illegal screen, then bricks a wide open three, then shoots a ridiculous runner.
