Big East February '26 Thread

Mela and Vaaks take way too many shots but I guess everyone else is injured or ejected.
Exactly. I mean, who else is going to shoot the ball for PC?

English has lost all control of that program. Both dirty fouls by the Friars were on Hopkins, the Providence transfer. Neither player made ANY attempt to play the ball, straight Detriot Piston Bill Laimbeer type fouls.

St Johns is slapping and refs are silent
The fight was totally on the Providence player but if the refs were not allowing Ejiofor to pull and push on D it would not have occured
St Johns is the face of a scumbag program and Pitino has a lot to do with it. Putting in Hopkins the last minute is proof positive.
I hope UConn destroys these thugs but UConn has to put their big boy pants on.

they were on Ejiofor not Hopkins

PC was up 1 with momentum and just decided they’d rather fight then play basketball
Very well paid to play CBB but Providence would rather play Grand Theft Auto on the court

We agree on Creighton. Nova is a 6 seed right now. Pretty good.
Really impressed with what Willard could pull together on short order. They have a pretty balanced roster, he has them playing smart, gritty defense. May have what is one of the better wins in the league right now at Wisky.

It's honestly lame - if ever the straw to break the back to just move on English, it's that kind of buffoonery.

Someone please explain Powell’s haircut to me, please.

Apparently he said it’s a Dallas thing? Kinda like the one sock Kerry Kittles thing, but, you know, not looking absolutely ridiculous.

Think this is rock bottom for the Kim English era? Just a total lack of control of his players, and the fans in attendance just look horrible, too. To their credit, the PC board is blasting Powell up and down. Just such a bad look for that program today.

I will take Darling on my team any day. He is big reason why they are on a 10-game winning streak. The one major weakness to his game: he can't go right.
Maybe, but having some attitude like that goes a long way.

This is a bit like having that one great athlete, all you need is one of these psychos and it spreads, contagious. I think they said his dad played pro football, which would make sense.

Powell lost this game for them, he goes for a normal/basketball play hard foul would have not been a problem but he went mchale/rambis

You people are soft. Those were good old hard fouls. Considering what Hopkins did to PC, he should be be lucky he’s walking. This is what our dim witted conference commissioner wants, SJU as the poster child. The fact they won’t get to the sweet 16 is irrelevant.

Wild Melee at Amica - St John's and PC right now on TNT. Powell flagrant foul on Hopkins and expulsion. St Johns up by one in second half.
Here’s what I don’t get…Powell commits the hard foul, Hopkins goes after him (which I get) but then Powell keeps going ham “seeing red” going after two other guys, none of which are Hopkins.

Back look for Providence: you commit the dirty play and are most out of control in the skirmish?

No question that attitude goes a long way. Hurley alluded to it last year when he said "we have a bunch of nice guys". Look at the championship teams in 23 and 24, you had AJax, Sanogo, Clingan, Spencer, and Newton. Newton talked a ton of trash on the court. It wasn't always visible on TV but you could see it if you saw the game live.

Ehhh — not that crazy - but I guess by current standards -pretty wild. in the old big east this would’ve been nothing more than a “small dust up” No major punches thrown just a lot of posturing. I’m sure val Ackerman will come down with the “death penalty” on some of these guys, which is comical , but such is the society we live in now — I Don’t blame the PC fans for being frustrated. Been a rough year and Bryce Hopkins sold out for the bag. As Ted dibiase used to say “everyone has a price”- . I really hate St. John’s. I was at that game at MSG last week and their fans were real bi**+#% es—-. Hate PC too but I’m with them on this one. Wish we had an enforcer. Loved it last year when haas squared up with that dude from Creighton.
