Watching nova for the first time. Don’t think we could lose to them. I know we’re doomed for me saying that but in all reality we’re a bad matchup for them. And while he’s not awful, glad Gavin Griffiths didn’t select UConn, just saying!

Nova now up double digits and putting this one away. they still haven't beat anyone but they're beating the teams they should beat unlike the Neptune years. Michigan/Pitt/Wisc coming up for them, given how they performed vs BYU and what I've seen from Pitt/Wisc they have enough talent to beat those two.

Big East goes 5-0 today capped off with a great UConn win over Kansas. Granted the other 4 games were cupcakes and Marquette needed overtime to beat Valpo.

Before everyone jumps off buildings over the Big East's below average showing in the OOC, I there is a pretty good chance that there will not be a single non P5 school other than Gonzaga that will be a candidate for an at-large. Putting the Pac 12 schools into the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 is just going to create more losses for those schools, or Big 10, etc. schools. Also, the SEC is not dominating the OOC like it did last year, Whenever the prior season finally drops out of KenPom around Christmas, the SEC is going to come way back to earth.

Some of these Big East losses are just overscheduling too, and a few teams got snakebit but are not that bad.

6 tournament/bubble teams after UConn.

  1. St. Johns blew it against Iowa State and Alabama, and fell apart against Auburn, but has a winnable game against Mississippi and Kentucky is a tossup. I think they will do well in conference play, although the lack of a PG is a problem.
  2. Butler needs to beat Boise State and Northwestern, both winnable, and they will be in good shape for a bid because that Virginia win is going to age well. Matta's Butler teams have always played good offense, but they can also at least slow teams down on defense now.
  3. Seton Hall is salty on defense and should be undefeated right now but the refs stole the game for USC. I like its chances against Kansas State and Rutgers.
  4. Creighton is not a Top 20 team this season, so it was going to lose to Gonzaga and Iowa State. Baylor could have gone either way, but I like its chances against Nebraska and Kansas State. It should at least split, and may sweep those two.
  5. Villanova will lose to Michigan, Wisconsin can go either way, and will probably beat Pittsburgh. Need to see what they do with Wisconsin to predict much more.
  6. Xavier's loss to Georgia may cost them a tournament bid because they had that one in the bag and blew it. I didn't like this team at all in the beginning of the season, but Pitino Jr. just needed some time. Xavier is probably beating Cincinnati, but they still need 12 wins in league play to make the Dance since they have 3 OOC losses.
No chance of a Tournament:

  1. Providence wasn't going to beat Wisconsin or Florida, but losses to Colorado and Virginia Tech with a roster this talented is not forgivable. PC could cause some problems in league play because they have some good players, but the coach is a big net negative.
  2. Georgetown's win over Clemson is one of the bigger head scratchers of the season, because I do not like the way this team plays, at all.
  3. Depaul is not good, but they are through their P5 opponents so they can't hurt the league anymore.
  4. Marquette's team this year is just one of those deals where a roster simply doesn't work. Marquette will get annihilated by Wisconsin and Purdue, and this could be a 5 or fewer win team in league play.

Projecting out the rest of the season, and what is likely to happen with the other majors, I think the Big East will get 4, and has a shot at 5 teams into the tournament depending on how the next 2 weeks go.

.-.
I would switch Georgetown and Xavier.

Sure. Xavier looked bad in its win tonight.

Edit: Nah, I can’t stand Cooley’s style of play. While I have issues with Xavier, I think they have a better shot than Georgetown of making the tournament.

He really has been much worse than I ever imagined in college. I thought his low would be 36% from three for a year, that's his high (so far this. year). I'd say Mullins is already a better player, by a lot.

English should get fired tonight if he loses this game. This Providence team's talent is way too good for the team to suck this bad.

I keep saying it but what is Marquette going to do about Shaka?

They're atrocious and what they have coming for next season is three recruits and two redshirt freshmen so once again he won't be using the portal unless they force him to.

Marquette spends too much money on basketball for him to be this stubborn. He's quickly blown up what he had going there.

Marquette is Chase Ross and nothing else

Imagine putting 100% of your season on the shoulders of.......Chase Ross

Fire him.

How did Shaka Smart think this roster was going to be successful? Marquette would have trouble going 50% in the A10 with this roster.

Maybe Shaka is just not that good of a coach. He was a bust at Texas.

Georgetown could still use Drew Fielder, playing well for Boise St vs Butler. These non conf games vs Boise and Northwestern are crucial for Butler, they gotta finish with only one loss.

I know I need to root for Butler but Boise St has been running some beautiful offense the last few minutes. The movement has been SO pretty

I have as much as I can take with Marquette. I am ignoring their game with Wisconsin because whenever I flip the channel to their game Marquette is always down by 14 or more and playing like ass.

Boise State beating Butler at Butler. Not good.

Marquette down big against Wisconsin.

Boise runs some nice stuff, they've been carving Butler up in the 2nd half. Just came out of the TV timeout and immediately got a wide open look at the rim.

Hopefully Seton Hall can win. Butler is spitting the bit and Marquette was their usual crappy self and was never expected to challenge Wisconsin. Boise State was a 7th place finisher in the Maui Invitational this year only defeating Division 2 Chaminade.

Hey Boise State is pretty good. I remember when they beat a pretty good Oklahoma squad. Oh wait that was football.

Yep. Boise St was running some really good stuff on offense, but I just checked and that is a Q3 loss for Butler. Bad loss and they'll drop way down from #22 tomorrow

Outside UConn the Big East has been a bust in the OOC games.

It is way too early to tell if that will be a Q3 loss.

Watching KState vs SHU, I am on board with the Big East going full home cooking with officials in OOC games. KState apparently no longer has to dribble or leave the paint.

Seton Hall should be up dbl digits at the half, Budd Clark going 1/4 a the line with 2 trips to finish the half didn't help. Hopefully these points they left on the board doesn't come back to haunt them.
