Any thoughts on what Penders does with starting pitching for tomorrow. Is Ward available or his he hurt? I imagine Tabakman will get the start but if we need Ward in a second game tomorrow is he available or possibly in the championship game. I wonder if Butler maybe gets a start since he has been used minimally so far. What other options are there? I can't imagine him starting Colletti especially if we made it to the championship game.

Tabakman will start the first Saturday game, there's no doubt about that. It seems Butler has taken over the role as the closer, with Feehan and Mahaney the main set up guys, so I'm guessing they won't start any games. Ward is with the team in Florida, and according to Chris Jones on WHUS, is available to pitch. I'm guessing the most likely candidates would be Ward or Colletti to start. I expect that any starters aside from Tabakman would be on a very short leash from Penders. We saw that with the bullpen last night. Also a possibility would be a "staff" game on Sunday, where you might see just about anybody, including short stints from Cross and Marzi. The good news is that with the off day today, the bullpen should be fairly well rested for Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Like I said before, given the starting pitching situation it would really help UConn to avoid a second game on Saturday, so we need a big effort from Tabakman on Saturday.

Norton grounds out to second and Rutgers has a 2-1 victory against USF. Bulls eliminated from Big East tournament with the loss ...

Rutgers it is..

From earlier in month:

May 05, 2013 Piscataway, N.J. Rutgers 4, UConn 2
May 04, 2013 Piscataway, N.J. Rutgers 9, UConn 4
May 03, 2013 Piscataway, N.J. UConn 3, Rutgers 1

Doesn't Rutgers have to beat us twice to advance??

Yup...

Huskies need one win to reach Sunday's @BigEastChamps final, while @BaseballRU needs to beat Huskies twice #bleedblue

Going into the 6th inning, UConn up 2-1. Hope we can get a couple more shut out innings from Tabakman. Still, I'm sure at this point Penders will yank him right away if there is any sign of trouble.

I'm jumping on the baseball bandwagon. I mostly follow D-3. Watching this kid Tabakman, he has incredible movement on his fastball, major league stuff, no? Any negatives on him?

Tabakman gets out of the 7th nicely. Let's go UConn!!!

Welcome aboard. Tabakman spent most of the season in the bullpen before moving into the starting rotation late in the year. Because of this, he hasn't gone deep into the games. Like many UConn pitchers, he is prone to wildness and can he can start walking everyone in sight at moments notice.. But generally, he has been very good.

So far, pitching wise, this game has been a best case scenario for UConn. Tabakman goes seven strong innings, before Penders starts bringing in the Feehan-Mahaney-Butler trio to close out the game. One more inning to sweat out!

Wow it took them that look to figure out it was batter interference.

On to the finals!

ND beat us up pretty bad in South Bend. What is the pitching match ups for tomorrow?

.-.
So even though it's a double elimination tourney, it's a one game final?

Wow! This team has been depending on its pitching and especially its relief corps all year. As long as they do well and the fielding doesn't mess up too badly, we usually do ok. This game was the perfect example of that. Best part about this game is that the whole bullpen should be in good shape for tomorrow and Notre Dame. At any rate, it promises to be a kitchen sink game for the pitching staff with no clear front runner to start tomorrow.

I would think if Ward is healthy he wouldn't certainly get the start. Especially since some of ND's best hitters are lefties. Anyways hope the wind is blowing from right to left again. Our batters have to try and be more patient swinging and try to keep the ball down and not so many fly outs since most balls hit in the air are being knocked down.
