Big East Awards

Geno on Ashlynn

"It often goes unnoticed." Case in point with the voting. I don't have a problem with the voting since the coaches obviously have an appreciation for Shade since she won the freshman and sixth-player awards. They know what they saw in the games.

"I can't take her out of the game." In the last ten games she's played quite a few more minutes than anyone, including Azzi and Sarah (including an extra game for Sarah since she missed one). I suspect this is because they've been playing the bench more and Shade is a steadying influence.

They is The Athletic, who came up with a pretty good 10 player AA team broken down to a 5 person 1st team and a 5 person 2nd team. As the poster suggests, Sarah was on the 1st team and Azzi on the 2nd. UConn was the only team with 2 players and Sarah was the Athletic’s choice as NPOY.

The rest of the 1st team includes Betts, Blakes, Booker and Miles, all great choices. There is absolutely no argument on Betts, Blakes & Sarah. I guess you could try to make an argument that Azzi deserves 1st team more than Booker or Miles. But both players have been outstanding all season and arguing that Azzi deserves it more than they do is really just sour grapes.
Nah, oldude, it's not all sour grapes, although it may be for some. Outside of Strong and Blakes, I think a healthy discussion can/should be had about the merits of all Miles, Fudd, Hidalgo, Betts, and Edwards as First Team AAs. All five have merit, IMO.

I think an additional debate can be had on the decision to have a five person First Team as opposed to a ten person team. All of the P4 conferences have ten person First Teams and three of them also have ten player Second Team (heck, the SEC has a total of 11 players on the 2nd Team).

.-.
Did anyone else notice who is missing from the list of the players that received awards? No player is listed as a post player. They are all guards or forwards. I expect that to change next year with an addition to the UConn roster. But for the time being consider it to be a little insight as to why the other Big East teams are making minimal forward progress.

This is a trend that’s been going on for years. There is a negative connotation to the term “center.” I.E. Big, slow, can’t shoot or dribble, etc. First & foremost, everyone wants to be called a guard. If they can’t reasonably be called a guard, then they are called forwards.

What would Wilt Chamberlain say?

Yeah, big slow players are out. Big is ok, but you better be mobile and fast. As for the rest of the Big East, it's not going to happen unless a team gets a freakishly good recruit who wants a smaller, local school. There are just fewer bucks available from smaller, private schools as opposed to big universities. NIL killed the small schools ability to recruit the best players. yeah, there will always be an exception, but overall, bigger is better, at least for dough.

Good bigs are in short supply, therefore they go first to the top schools for prestige, chance at a title, chance for the W and NIL.

He lost the best player in WBB from last year. Despite that he put together the #1 team in the nation. His UConn team beat everyone, twice. Who else could possibly coach of the year. Considering anyone else would be ridiculous.

Not always. Reagan Beers could have come to UConn but chose Oklahoma for a better culture fit, Audi Crooks is at Iowa State, Khamil Pierre transferred from Vandy to NC State, et al

If there was a "Jackknife" Award if would definitely go to Shade. That girl does everything and does it very well. Unfortunately for the BE awards selection, she does it quietly, but we all know better!
Swiss Army Knife?

I think Bascoe would fit in nicely
I agree.

I'm a couple of years out of date, but I always thought Emma Ronsiek, Morgan Maly, and Lauren Jensen from Creighton would look mighty fine in a Huskies jersey....not to mention Maddy Siegrist. There are definitely others, but those were the first to come to mind.

Ash should have been on second team period! She does everything very well that is why she is always in the game!
As Geno said about Ash, even when she is not playing well I don't take her out because I feel better when she's in. Which, to make sense of it, is Geno saying she's still quite good and better than the next one in.

Lucy Olsen from Villanova, Liza Karlen (Marquette to ND), and, of course, Aneesah Morrow.
