Didn't go to my first UConn home game until 2011, but in the three years since I've been to some pretty memorable games. If I had to rank the best games I've been too (not necessarily happiest result), I'd rank them as follow:
1. 2012 Syracuse - Arch rival, 9:00 on a Saturday night, #2 team in the country, ESPN gameday...I don't think you could have stacked the deck in favor of an atmosphere of a lifetime any more...and it delivered. The comeback, and accompanying response from the crowd in the second half of the that game is something I won't forget despite the loss. We willed the team back into that game - one of the fondest memories of the 2012 season, because it was one of the first times they played with a purpose, even in defeat. The Providence game three nights later was the exact opposite.
2. 2013, G'Town - It was actually a pretty tty game until late in the second half when UConn mounted the furious comeback. The Markell Starks missed free throw and Omar Calhoun three was one of the most exhilerating sequences I've experienced as a UConn fan, and I don't think I've heard Gampel louder than it was when he tied that game. The fact that we basically had the game salted away in double overtime makes it the most heart-breaking game I've been to, but nonetheless it was a classic.
3. 2011, Louisville - Another double overtime game, and one UConn completely gave away after having a four point lead with less than a minute left. This was the first time we realized, "holy *, Peyton Siva really loves playing UConn". It was dis-heartening, but regardless, a classic.
4. 2011, Kentucky (Houston) - Probably the most satisfying win I've experienced as a UConn fan, even moreso than the two Duke final four wins. To watch kids like Lamb, Smith, and Napier, undeniably our backup options on the recruiting trail that year, outplay Knight and D. Lamb, two more heralded recruits who spurned us on national television, was priceless.
5. 2013, Syracuse - This goes without saying, the best game at the XL I've been to. The Boatright alley-oop in the second half was as loud as I've heard the XL.
6. 2011, Butler - Terrible game all around, but an immensely satisfying result.
