Placards honoring 13 players are on the Gampel wall.

All first-team All-Americans.

Who's the best UConn player not to be there?

IMO Kelly Faris should be on the short list.

If I believe that Geno will follow through with a "second Tier" someday as he's talked about in the past I think the following will all be on the list:

Kelly Faris
Asjha Jones
Tamika Williams
Jamelle Elliott

The best player not to be there in my mind is between Asjha and Kelly....and I am currently incapable of making that decision.

I probably go with Jamelle because of her accomplishments as a Player and a Coach. IMHO Jamelle needs to be the first one to go on the Wall of Honor when the requirements change.

I am not good with the early universe of players - the 1980s - 1995 but I think I've heard Geno praise a couple of players from that era very highly. Someone more old time than me needs to weigh in.
I would go with Jamelle followed by Kelly. Then fill in from 2002 vintage
And I will throw out two players who would not get a whole lot of consideration based on stats, but were instrumental in NCs - Ann Strother and Maria Conlon.

It's pretty obviously Asjha Jones in my view. She was fantastic for UConn, a key player in two NC runs, didn't get the recognition nationally she deserved because of the star power of classmates Sue and Swin and up-and-comer Diana, and has gone on to have stellar professional career.

In the fullness of time, I might put Kelly up there with her, but for now I feel like Asjha's bona fides warrant the recognition. Like Kelly, her legacy at UConn should be cherished, and it's a shame if it isn't.

Asjha Jones was an Olympian and on the All Tournament team in both FF's she won at UCONN. She is the best player not on the wall of honor! She could have averaged 20&10 her senior year, but she put the team ahead of herself. Until Tina, she IMO, was the best combination of offense and defense we ever had in the post.

Well first we'll list who's there
Bascom
Lobo
Rizzotti
Walters
Sales
Abrosimova
Ralph
Bird
Cash
Taurasi
Montgomery
Charles
Moore

It's hard not to go with Jones. A USWNT player not on the wall. 1502 pts, 794 rbs, 194 assists, 119 steals, 253 blocks

Elliott is close 1387 pts, 1054 rbs, 276 assists, 112 steals, 22 blocks.

If I had to pick one, it would probably be Jones.

Good list. Add Carla Berube. Add Laura Lishness.

Jones, Elliott, Faris. Tough choice.

Pardon but no. Not with Rebecca Lobo and Kara Wolters being in the conversation.

Wolters: 2141 points, 15.6 ppg, 927 rebounds, 6.8 rpg, 295 assists, 370 blocks.
Lobo: 2133 points, 16.9 ppg, 1268 rebounds, 10.1 rpg, 260 assists, 396 blocks.

For the sake of comparison, Stef, who everyone hails as a great passing center (and rightly so) had 117 assists in 38 games this season, for 3.1 apg. Lobo had 3.7 apg her senior year.

For the sake of comparison, if Dolson has the same year as last she will end up with around:
1815 pts (#10), 1000 rbs (#5), 360 assists, 219 blocks (#4). Not too shabby.

They are very good numbers, but you get more perspective if you do them on a per-game basis. Our teams recent average number of games per year is 38. Kara played in 137 games (34/yr), Rebecca only in 126 (31.5/yr)!

A couple more non-AA names for your consideration:
BTW, where are you guys getting all the career stats from? I've only included the ones I can find in the media guide.

My favorite undersized power forward:
Barbara Turner 03-06 1,629 pts (11.8 p/g), 797 rb ( 5.77 p/g), 82 blk, BET MOP 2005, BET All tourney team 2005-6. More heart than John Henry.

Wanted to include Rita Williams too, but can't find anything except the 2.48 steals per game career average.

?Amy Duran 96-99 1,000 pts, .378 3FG (133/352)(#11), .860 FT (#2)(.955 64/67 in '98)

I'm not sure any of them make the cut. Dolson is probably next.
It's pretty certain that Hartley, Dolson and KML will all be there since they have already made 1st Team All-American.

We'll see how next year goes. Dolson might be a sliver below HoH level, and if so she'd be pretty high on this list.

KML will be the next, followed by Stewart.

That list makes you realize just how good the 2001 team was, boasting 5 of the 13 members.

By the time all is said and done, this 2013 could easily have 4 members - Hartley, Dolson, KML and Stewart - and don't count out Moriah or Tuck for making it 5 or 6.

Dolson has already qualified for the HoH, since she was a WBCA All-American (along with KML) this year; Hartley qualified last year. So all three would not be "eligible" for this current discussion.

HoH requirement of first team AA is already fulfilled by Dolson. So it should be a done deal.

I tweeted the day of the parade on 4/14/13 to mark it down, Kelly Faris WILL be first player who was NOT 1st team AA to be honored with Husky Wall of Honor.
