This includes non-Yankee conference opponents during those years

I think of the following:

Steve Chubin : Rhode Island
Dr. J: UMass
King Gaskins and Ron Texiera: Holy Cross
Jimmy Walker, Ernie D, Marvin Barnes: Providence
John Austin: BC
Dave Bing: Syracuse
Chris Dudley: Yale

I cannot think of any from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire

.-.
Sly Williams URI
Ronnie Perry Holy Cross
Ernie Cobb BC
Louie & Bouie Cuse
Soup Campbell Friars
Phil Sellers, Mike Dabney, James Bailey, Eddie Jordan and Hollis Copeland Rutgers
George Johnson St Johns
Tommy Heinsohn HC
Togo Palazzi HC
Bill Bradley. Princeton
Matt Goukas. St Joseph’s
Jeff Mullins Duke

i think some of the PC guys named were from ECAC not Yankee Years

Who knew UConn was in Yankee conference from 83-84 through 86-87?

This is an awful list and poorly thought out.

Awesome list, but only Sly was in the Yankee I think

First, UConn's YC basketball years were 1946-47 through 1976-77.

If you're talking best YC opposing players, I would suggest:

Dr. J (UMass)
Steve Chubin (Rhody)
Art Stephenson (Rhody)
Sly Williams (Rhody)
Skip Chappelle (Maine)
Clyde Lord (Vermont)

If you're talking any opponent played in the YC years, here's a possible Top Ten from just the 50's and 60's.

Elgin Baylor (Seattle)
Tom Heinsohn (HC)
Bill Bradley (Princeton)
Jeff Mullins (Duke)
Tom Sanders (NYU)
Vinnie Cohen (Syracuse)
Ed Conlin (Fordham)
Hal Lear (Temple)
Guy Rodgers (Temple)
Matt Goukas (St. Joe's)

Misinterpreted it. I see others did too. Mea culpa.

I figured I did quite honestly. Nonetheless I enjoyed those years there was still some really good basketball. All good.

IIRC, UConn was both. The Yankee Conference never had an auto-bid but Yankee teams could qualify for the Dance through the ECAC regional tournament. PC never played UConn when they were good in the 60's and early 70's.

Ernie Cobb BC

One that got away. Big star at Stamford High. Of all the BC players implicated in the point shaving scandle, Ernie was the only one not convicted (most likely due to the excellent lawyers referred by his HS coach Herm Alswanger). But the association probably cost him a cup of coffee in the NBA.

Elgin Baylor one of the forgotten all time greats.
I always wonderered why we never played those
Johnny Egan
Lennie Wilkins era PC team

We did play PC at times but the HC rivalry was much bigger.
Ron Perry, Jack Foley: Holy Cross
Jack “ The Shot” Foley
Greatest name for a basketball player ever. I forgot him.

No, we didn't. UConn and PC did not play between 1947 and 1975. UConn led the overall series 6-1. PC knew futility when they saw it so they stopped playing UConn. They only played in 75 and 76 because it was a playoff game. It was 30 seasons between regular season games. Pretty much PC's prime.

We played Seattle and Elgin Baylor in the 1957 Holiday Festival at MSG -- by far the most prestigious Christmas tournament of the era. Lost 83-67. Went on to defeat NYU (with soph Tom Sanders) and Pitt in the consolations.

Until the Andre Drummond 2011-2012 team, the 57-58 team was certainly the most under-performing UConn team I can recall. It finished 17-10. It had enormous depth, experience and size (for its time) in its forecourt with 6-8 Al Cooper, 6-7 Billy Schmidt, 6-5 Wayne Davis, 6-5 Jonny Pipcynski and 6-4 Paul Kaspar. Its starting backcourt of Jack Rose and Jim O'Connor was first-rate but there was no backup behind those two, and that was the problem. Rose, of course, was later implicated in a betting scandal, but I don't know if that impacted the 57-58 season.

A few more of the better ones I saw in the early 70s
George Bucci-Manhattan 6-3g strong leaper
Warren Prehmus-Vermont 6-3g great shooter
Rob Carrington- BC 6-6sf great all around smooth player

Jim Boeheim played with Dave Bing at Syracuse.
Bob Loyd and Jim Valvano from Rutgers.

Knocking off Soup Campbell and the Friars was a very satisfying win. Kicked their butts pretty good.

He was a very good scorer, basketball player. Really liked watching him play. He had a real similar game to another Fairfield County BC star a few years later in John Bagley. Both had those barrel-like bodies but could get to the rim and shot it pretty well too. Hate to say it BC was pretty good back in the day. Having HS teammates on the football and hoops team I admit to liking them (2nd to the Huskies no matter) until the mid 80's then that went away quick when they both left.
