Soon to be Terrence Samuel. Love that kid. The equivalent to Moriah Jefferson on the women's team.

Jeff Adrien did the blue color work, the guy brought his lunch pale and hard hat to work every day.

He played like he was 6"10

Denham Brown always fit the mold to me. Was a pure scorer prior to coming to UConn and was willing to fill a lesser role for all four years. His defence probably wasn't remotely as good as Moore or Kromah or others but he definitely sacrificed for the team.
If there is evidence of this "pure scorer prior to coming to UConn" thing, I've certainly never heard of it. I'm not even sure he PLAYED basketball in HS. At least not from what I've heard watching UConn games. Similarly, no idea who played with Kevin Freeman in HS. /sarcasm

Nadav was the star if that team, essentially a one and done. Don't know how he can be a glue guy.

The answer is of course, Ricky Moore. The guys play in 99, invented the term the following season. Look up the original SI article.

I agree. A glue guy does what the team needs at a given moment. At the start of the NC game, the team was a tight as a drum. Ricky took it to Duke, scored a few buckets to break the ice. Once the scorers started scoring he contributed in the other facets of the game.

Not sure what a glue guy is really. If you mean a "do everything" sixth man, I think Niels is in the conversation, but I would second Rash Jones. Several people mentioned were starters and star players....I don't think that's what we are talking about. Rashad Anderson would be on the list, and so would Lyman Depriest (my favorite).

Burrell? The dude played in the NBA, and was a 1st round pick in two sports, while being recruited by Notre Dame to play QB in a third. That is not a glue guy. That is a star athlete.

I appreciate the sarcasm hashtag but it still gives me an opportunity to link to this. I'd call 111 in a game pretty pure scoring. To me, a glue guy is someone who sacrifices what he could do if he just focused on himself and instead focuses on the team. Playing great defense isn't the only criteria.

Rashad Anderson does he count

Saved us in the FF in '04 v Duke.
Ricky Moore is ultimate glue dude though. - smothered Duke in '99.
Turpentine anti glue is Denham v. Mason.

I've always found terms like "glue guys" and "role players" kind of silly. Either you can play or you can't. Guys like Niels Giffey and Lasan Kromah were both really good players for us, Giffey especially. He was our most indispensable player on defense and pretty darn valuable as a stretch four on offense. I know this thread wasn't intended to diminish his contributions, but I have a tough time assigning the label of "role player" to somebody who was our second best player for a sizable portion of his final two years here.

Sorry, how could I or the rest of you forget Rashamel Jones?

1998 Big East tournament championship game -- he was huge against the Syracuse zone.

Tony Robertson, one the most unlucky Uconn players ever comes in after the 99 title and then misses out on the 04 championship
Edmund Saunders

Obviously, we all have different definitions of "glue guy" (with mine being the correct one of course), but if it's someone who holds things together, sacrifices personal accomplishments, and makes the team much better without being the primary scorer, I would say that Nadav was the best. Rash Jones sacrificed. Giffey did whatever was needed and did it well. But Nadav made that team great by all the little things he did so amazingly well.
