Niels and Kromah both belong in the discussion, doing whatever was asked of them while deferring to superstars. Job responsibilities include diving for loose balls, banging on the glass, guarding multiple positions, just being a complete team player overall.

I'll put out a couple of options from when I started following the Huskies 25 years ago.
  • Niels Giffey
  • Lasan Kromah
  • Lyman DePriest
  • Would Ricky Moore qualify?
  • Denham Brown?
  • Marcus White
  • Craig Austrie

I think the whole '99 team besides Rip and KEA would qualify. Rashamel Jones came to mind - even played PF and never sulked when his minutes and points went down. Donny sort of fit the mold in '94 and '95, although you could make the case he exceeded glue status. Roscoe in '11.

Niels Giffey is the perfect glue guy. A knockdown 3 point shooter, who doesn't take bad shots. He even showed bits of slashing and post game skill towards the end of the year. But more importantly is his defensive versatility. He guarded players from Sean Kilpatrick to Julius Randle and every kind of player in between. UConn needed more consistent rebounding? Niels crashed the boards like crazy and pulled in some huge rebounds (including 11 against Nova).

Championship teams need high-level glue guys; there's a reason Niels Giffey is a two time National Champion.

Nadav was the star if that team, essentially a one and done. Don't know how he can be a glue guy.

The answer is of course, Ricky Moore. The guys play in 99, invented the term the following season. Look up the original SI article.

It's me.

I'm holding this place together.

Players only have to do it for a couple of years - I'm working on decades here.
And a fine job you are doing. I haven't seen a crack in years. Of course I'm blind in one eye and about 100 miles a way. Did you know that Fishy does this all without compensation? Man, he's not even on scholarship.

I knew we needed a new cause to rattle Emmert's cage. You heard it here first, The NCAA must grant Fishy a lifetime scholarship; if they don't there will be blood. Did you know that Kaintuck means dark and bloody ground.
Emmert don't make Fishy take Kentucky's silver. Bribe him yourself.

Denham Brown always fit the mold to me. Was a pure scorer prior to coming to UConn and was willing to fill a lesser role for all four years. His defence probably wasn't remotely as good as Moore or Kromah or others but he definitely sacrificed for the team.

From the moment Niels bent at the waist and didn't get the loose ball and had KO yell at him, he did everything except hit the open outside shots he hit all year (go figure). And, the shots finally came in the final game . . . plus the other one from the corner. The argument could be made that there's no NC if he didn't do all that he did.

Then again, same argument gets made regarding Boat's defense, free throw shooting and shot selection. And DD stepping up on defense and offense. And TSam filling in for Lasan, until the final game when he went back to being understudy. And Phil's interior defense. And Amida's 3-point play vs. St. Joe's.

Oh yeah: Shabazz!

And KO, and the staff, and JC, and the alums.

It took ALL of that to win, NOT playing "perfect games" against "better" teams.

Plus Senhor.

2012- probably the most forgotten/ unheralded Uconn glue guy ever ,Brandon Allen. His moment was brief but he was needed.

Needed for what? We sucked in 2012 as a team and he played like 6 minutes all season. Nothing against Brandon, but I'll just assume this was a joke.

If I'm not mistaken we were short guards when he played. Didn't he play (briefly) during that whole Boat situation ?

Rash Jones is #1 for me
I think Niels was a glue guy until this year when he emerged as a force onto himself and Kromah was the glue guy.
I'd argue Henefeld was a glue guy because his ability to make the extra pass and come up with anticipation steals changed that entire teams mentality. Somewhere during that year though Nadav morphed from glue guy to true star, probably right around the time Alonzo was mouthing off at him.

Horatio seems to be the "Sniffs a lot of Glue Guy"

Say what you want. A walk- on played minutes at Uconn the year after a National Championship , in between the Kemba Walker , Shabazz Napier , Ryan Boatright Era. That's not traditional " glue guy" but its glue to me.

As a Freshman 2011-12: Appeared in 9 games, averaging 0.2 points and 0.2 rebounds per game... Scored two points against Cincinnati... Averaged 14 minutes per game in two preseason contests.

IN all seriousness you are right, the joke was simply funny. Another good one is Shamon Tooles.
