Best come back after a serious illness or injury

Sticking to basketball, Kevin Durant tearing his achilles at 30 years old and then averaging 25+ PPG for the next 5 seasons is insane

Same with Westbrook. 2-3 knee surgeries in 2013, goes on to win MVP a few years later and kicks off a streak of averaging a triple double for multiple seasons as a PG that relies 100% on explosive strength and athleticism to play. Still playing big minutes in the league a decade after the injuries

Dominique Wilkins was the first NBA player to come all the way back from an Achilles injury, at age 32 in 1992. No one else did anything close for over 2 decades.

Wilkins should have been one of the 10 best players in NBA history, but he didn’t play defense or develop the killer instinct until he didn’t have the team around him for it to matter.

Wasn't it Rashad Anderson who had the serious leg infection and could have lost his leg or his life?

Even though it was in the twilight of his career, Kobe’s achilles comeback was still epic. Especially that it started with him nailing two free throws, standing on the just-torn achilles.
