If the question is pastries, then the answer is Del Prete in Bridgeport. I grew up around the corner and was just there for Easter.

Otherwise I vote for Sift in Mystic.

If you define a "bakery" by cookies, Italian pastry such as cannolis, and various cakes, Livecchi's in Hartford was the best ever. When we started dating, my wife lived across the street and I wore a rut into Franklin Ave. walking over.

We have a Noto family from Sicily restaurant here in Grand Rapids! And it’s fantastic.
