Carla is NESCAC Coach of the Year. You go, Carla!

Coach of the Year went to Carla Berube of Tufts. Berube, now in her 10th season in Medford, guided the Jumbos to a second-place finish in the NESCAC, a 21-6 overall record, and the program's first-ever home game in the NCAA Tournament. Tufts will make its fourth NCAA appearance in the past five years this weekend, all of which have come during Berube's tenure. She was previously honored in 2007 and again in 2008.

NESCAC honors announced

Congrats to Carla! question - i assume she's "content" there at Tufts - but she's had quite a bit of success there. why has she never looked to a bigger program to coach at?

I think I recall seeing her in an interview where she said she was indeed "content".

I believe Carla is a low key sort of person who perhaps wouldn't enjoy the
spotlight or the pressures associated with a more high profile position. She
has found a comfortable spot, and I think she enjoys that comfort.

I remember the interview, Ed; and you have reported correctly.

I have seen Carla coaching her team when Tufts has played at Middlebury.

She always looks like a "happy camper." (And a very good coach.)

She's also within 30 minutes of her home town.

It's interesting talking to D-3 coaches. So often they do so much more than just coach -- they teach, run the athletic dept., get multiple MAs (see Quinn, former head of NYU). There's pressure -- but a different kind of pressure.

Great stories. One of my favorite:
“Twenty years ago you pulled out one section of bleachers,” noted coach Nan Carney-DeBord. “The budget was less than half the men’s. The uniforms were too small. I had a player, I remember in my very first game with her, she put on the uniform, sat down and it ripped. I brought it to the Provost’s office, laid it on his desk and said, ‘You know, athletes are bigger now. We need new uniforms.’ I was young and obviously brazen. Who would do that?” Fortunately, the two became friends. “He said it was the most incredible visual to have in terms of budget inequities.”

Not everyone's goal in life is to have the same headaches Geno has. ;-)

Who could ever give up being the coach of the "JUMBOS".

One of the greatest team names ever!

Personally I'm rather fond of the Fightin' Camels. If they could ever get over the hump, they'd be unstoppable.

Having worked for CC for over 11 years, it's kinda tough to get 'em away from their favorite watering holes..

Tufts advanced to the sweet 16 this weekend.

Next weekend, the unranked Jumbos (23-6) face #12 St Thomas[MN] (28-1), with winner getting #2 Chicago or #5 Calvin [MI]

Other New England teams advancing: #1 Amherst, Emmanuel, and Bowdoin
