Benedict Wants Meeting With Aresco On Remaining In AAC For Football

Does anyone think something will come of it? What if not just football but a few of the non-basketball sports stayed in AAC?

Yeah, we can stay, but prohibited from post season play and we get no money. Also, if we ever start winning then they have the right to kick us out. Yeah, it would be a good deal.

That all said, might as well ask and see what comes of it.

We could adjust the deal with Big East -- baseball soccer etc. could stay with AAC as well as football.

If the NCAA won't let the AAC play a CCG with 11, there's nobody else that adds our value, even if we're down in football performance currently. I think there's still a decent shot we remain in the conference as football only, though probably need to make concessions on the payout.

Cant hurt to try. Even if its for a few years. It makes it easier for the ADs as far as scheduling, but their egos are too big. I say Tulsi Gabbard has a better chance of being president.

Really? Why is that? Women’s field hockey is in the Big East and they clearly can play in the post season.

Holy Cow what a cluster. That’s nice AD Dave, you would like to have a conversation. What a joke. Trying to figure out who was a bigger clown - Hathaway, Manuel, or Benedict. Incompetence at its finest.

He wants to sit down with Aresco. Is this real?

Just think the impression our prior AD, the rock star, gave to the ACC when we were almost into the ACC. If it is at all like Dave's experience in recent weeks, we start to see -- in part -- why we lost out.

One piece of leverage UConn has -- can play non conference BB games with AAC teams. May be worth something to AAC, especially if MBB team starts to take off.
Another piece may be an adjusted cut for conference affiliation and a reduced exit fee from other sports. UConn parking one sport in the American and not taking a piece of the pie may entice the rest of the conference to allow them to stay. Also, the Hartford/Springfield market, UConn's brand recognition, and an east coast presence is something that needs to be considered. UConn's value lies in it's brand and TV market. You are not getting that from any other G5 school except BYU and BYU from what I hear doesn't want to join. Boise provides football brand recognition, but would increase travel for the conference and has a TV market ranking of 106 nationally, while Hartford/Springfield ranks 30th. That's higher than KC, Vegas, San Antonio, Cincy and many other perceived larger markets. TV markets drive the bus and that may allow the team to negotiate a way to stay in the American. But as only UConn fans know so often, decisions are often made around spite, turf and other issues.

Bet he gets nothing but voicemail for at least a week. "Sorry, Mike's in Buffalo this week and Provo next week. Maybe you can see him in Newport in August!"

I see NBE has lacrosse team for men -- is UConn upgrading from club sport to join. Herbst would be happy.

Win, win, for the AAC and UConn because:
The AAC retains a program seemingly turning the corner; and
UConn's improvement will strengthen the league's overall rating; and
The AAC schedules have been set for several years and won't have to be revised; and
The AAC can restrict or deny bowl revenue sharing for a set period of time; and
UConn will have a good football schedule for a set number of years; and
UConn will have time to transition to another league/build a good independent schedule;
UConn will save on travel expenses for non-football sports;
UConn will be free to sell their lower tier games in all sports to SNY or other outlets;
UConn will (if its fans really are rabid) increase ticket sales back toward OBE levels; and
UConn "can live off the fat of the land", Lenny.

That's against NCAA rules. The only sport that can be in a separate conference is football, all other sports have to be in one conference if it is offered. Many people are in favor of doing away with that as it will allow rationalization and making single sports leagues.
