Benedict and Mora

Honestly UConn’s Dairy Bar isn’t that great. It’s probably not even top 5 in CT.

Penn State’s Creamery blows UConn’s out of the water and it isn’t particularly close. Sad to admit but it’s the truth.

And away we go............

I haven't been there in ages so I am making it a point to get up there. Perhaps Sunday for the Men's Soccer NCAA Tourney game. And no one else in the country can come close to this flavor

I thought the Dairy Bar was great when I was there last year. They need to make Hurley Almond Swirly a regular flavor.

Can someone overnight a pint to me up here in Canada?

I haven't been to UConn's Dairy Bar in almost 50 years, but I can say Penn State's is phenomenal.

And there are actual restaurants in State College.

I loathe Penn State as an institution, but UConn would do well to have a town like State College surrounding it.

.-.
It's bigger than Storrs and a couple hours from Pittsburgh and a few hours from Philadelphia. No better or worse than Storrs.
You’ve never been to State College. Storrs is nothing compared to State College. There is an actual college town with anything you want. On top of that, State College itself is a very large town with all of the usual stores and restaurants you’d find around here. To compare it to Storrs is a joke.

I really want to believe that Mora sees this as his endgame. He’s 64, found a place he says he loves and has him on the UConn athletics Mount Rushmore. I wanna believe that he feels his job is not done until he has this program into a P4. I know it’s more then just football but we check every other box and if the Big 12 hubaballo last year was real, FB was what held us back. Going 9-3 or 8-4 with wins against P-4 teams, annually, will give conferences plenty of support for their pitch to conference presidents to add UConn. We have all the other sports, FB has been the missing piece. Mora has us there and I wanna believe that he feels his job isn’t done until he gets us into a P4

on that note, who is the UConn mt rushmore?
the obvious answer is

Calhoun
Hurley
Geno
Mora

But don't shoot me - does RE1.0 Deserve some love on this?
I know things ended worse than the fall of Saigon with him, but recency bias is real. Does the job he did in the 2000s not mean anything anymore?

ducks for cover

It’s funny because I actually was thinking about this today. I think RE hurt his legacy by coming back for a round 2. That being said, he absolutely needs to be recognized for being the coach laid the groundwork of success for this program. You can’t ignore a BCS game and 3 bowl game victories, on top of a conference title. Plus the number of players he put into the NFL. It’s hard to really appreciate this because of the poor taste RE v2 left.

As for the MT Rushmore, you’d need to add Jim Penders for sure.

They actually believe they do.

They are wrong.
Not sure how it works in Connecticut but many states, including Pennsylvania, have fat content limitations on ice cream, and the Creamery there is grandfathered in. It's like each cold sweet butter. Super big fat content.

If he never came back, you could make a case to put him on there. However, he torpedoed any goodwill during his second stint. That's part of his legacy here now. While his success in the Big East with a new D1 program is something to appreciate, the whole package is tainted now.

I agree with that. When we first moved up people were saying it would take a decade before UConn had a winning season.

On Mount Rushmore in Storrs, I might be tempted to make an Argument for John Toner. Accepted the offer to join the Big East pretty much on his own. Hired Geno Aurriema and Jim Calhoun. He kind of set the table for much of our success.

Are you trying to turn a Mora thread into an Edsall thread? You really should duck for cover..lol.

No football coach should be included with 3 coaches who have won multiple national championships.

The only three in my opinion are
Geno
Calhoun
Hurley

-> Akron’s season ended on Tuesday with a win over Bowling Green to finish with a 5-7 record, and head coach Joe Moorhead could be a name to watch at a few places. That includes the offensive coordinator job at Virginia Tech under Franklin or the UConn head job if Jim Mora leaves. Moorhead was Franklin’s OC at Penn State from 2016 to ‘17, and he was the OC on the 2010 UConn team that reached the Fiesta Bowl. Mora himself has received interest from jobs out west, like Oregon State and Stanford. <-

I hope I'm wrong but I could totally see Mora having an itch that he can take a P4 program into the playoffs and compete for a natty.

Looking back, I think HCRE underachieved first go around. He had every possible advantage to start. He did fine. But the program stalled out and he was too busy looking to escape to take us to the next level. If only he got the GTech job. I agree with those he said he never really believed in UConn FB.

The program stalled out? Nope, RE jumped ship when we were at the top of hill at a BCS Bowl, Who knows how he could have leveraged the Fiesta Bowl trip in recruiting the following year if he stayed?

We will never know, he accepted the Maryland, jumping ship instead of flying home from Phoenix with the team. He also began his (and our) descent into hell. Edsall never recovered. We did thanks to Mora but it took longer than its should have.
