I was just gonna say this. Some fans didn't like that he was so public about lack of NIL for FB, and he made it a point to emphasize that BB would not be winning like they were if they weren't funded at a high level. He wasn't looking for equal money, just money to compete for competent players. Remember we were losing guys like Kenan Marrion and Cam Ross around that time.

Also to the guys pointing out that his biggest accomplishment here is proving that could it be done here under the current, less than ideal circumstance that is FBS independence. Spot on guys. You can't have a headcoach walking around like Eeyore and think that you're gonna have anything other than an empty stadium with a putrid product.
 
Coach Mora has to pound the crap out of the portal this year. Fagnano, Bell, and Parham are getting big time accolades right now. Would they be getting this much attention at their former schools? I doubt it. Find those under-valued or under-utilized guys and get them in Storrs. That is how UConn Football is going to keep winning and progressing. Nothing new here, I just wanted to say pound the portal.

I don't necessarily view Washington as a threat to take Mora, but I do think there is a high probability that job opens up. I think they'll aim higher than Mora. Fisch makes $7.5m this year. That's multiple (multiple) levels higher than Mora.

IIRC one of the reasons Mora took this role, although far from Sun Valley, is that he has kids/grandkids in NYC area? That is probably a factor in this.

Coaching college football is a 24/7/365 job in today's era, so there really isn't a point being closer to Sun Valley for him, especially if he is going to a "bigger" job -- he simply won't have the time to get out there anyways. If, for some reason, that is a factor, there still really aren't gigs for him. Mora makes ~$2.2m:

Lateral at Best (so probably not worth it):
  • Oregon State $2m
  • Colorado State $2m
Will They Even Call (If Open)?
  • Boise $2m
  • UCLA $3.1m
  • UNLV $3.5m
  • Stanford (N/A but likely $3-4m+)
Honestly, Stanford is the most intriguing one for me. NFL guy running the show in Andrew Luck. Mora is a proven rebuilder and has experience coaching college ball in California. Plus it would be a very nice pay raise.

The other thing to look at with Mora is next year's team -- it's a mini-rebuild in a lot of ways. Yes, the foundation and culture is really strong -- and they have a lot more leverage to attract talent, but you still need to hit on at minimum a QB1 and WR1. You're losing two of the best players in the country. Going to be nearly impossible to replace to begin with, let alone hit on. So if I'm Mora, I would view this as the offseason to leave. I do think if he stays this cycle and granted things don't go south fast, this will be his last coaching gig.

Washington is his dream job. It's been out there since 2004. If they offer him the job he's gone.

Saban is the Jim Calhoun/Dan Hurley of college football. Mora has been successful at UConn but you are comparing him to probably the greatest college football coach of all time.

Saban won 7 national titles. Six at Alabama and one for LSU. He had an incredible college career.

I still (want to) believe it's bigger than money and being close to Idaho.
As others have said, a P4 job is stressful - get on top and stay on top - it never ends.
Taking a promotion, even one on the west coast, probably means less time away in Idaho than he's afforded in CT.
At this income bracket, physical distance is easily overcome. P4 job demands are not.

UW has been the dream.
But times change and people change.
why take on the stress and end your legacy by being fired from yet another job?
I say fired, bc as many have said here, he probably does have a success ceiling, as proved in NFL and at UCLA. He's probably not winning the CFP at UW or anywhere else.

His leash is so long at UConn; the seat here would be ice cold for much longer than it ever would at a P4 school.

That's fair. But Washington was his dream job 22 years ago. He was 41. That was a very different time in his life. He may look at things a bit differently at 63. Maybe not. But he has a sweet deal here. Low expections, good money, he runs hos own show.

I just dont see them offering. I do not think any B1G or SEC team would seriously consider a 64 year old Jim Mora (I hope!). A bottom barrel ACC/Big 12 team in desperate need of a rebuild? Sure I could see it.

After Cignetti I think people are rethinking that old tired reasoning. Plus he is an alumni.

They could double his salary and still be paying less than they are now.

I hope Mora stays until he hangs it up for good, but he has made the UConn gig SO much more attractable for good candidates. Plus Benedict has too because he has shown we are investing in it. So we should be able to hire a good coach if Mora gets a P4 gig.

Mora has his system hitting on all cylinders. That took time to set up, it will take time to set up someplace else. Time is one thing Jim is hesitant to waste, I would think. As long as he's getting what he feels he needs to compete, I think he's good here. The only thing other jobs have to offer is more money. And I have to think Jim didn't spend a whole lot of his buyout cash while holed-up in Idaho for 4 years.
