You would think 6 Super Bowl victories would be a slam dunk.

So what would leave him out?
-These things are always political and wasn't very nice to the media
-Didn't do well with the Browns.
-Didn't do well with the Pats after Brady left.
-Coaching stint at UNC has been a dumpster fire.

Still shouldn't erase 6 Super Bowl victories though. Perhaps punishment for Spygate and Deflategate also.

My guess is that some voters are expecting him to return to the NFL. Nothing else makes sense.

It’s very simple.

This is his penance for being awful to the media and other coaches/teams his entire career.

Running up the score. Purposely trying to embarrass the other team. Being a complete jerk in pretty much every presser he had. They’re making him eat humble pie and I love seeing it.

Bimbo girlfriend has destroyed his reputation. Best coach ever now a laughing stock

Another Hall of Fame that's lost all credibility.

I read Spygate and Deflategate were a factor. HOF doesn’t like cheating.

I honestly am very surprised. He deserved to get in…but I don’t mind this happening to him.

Yes and no, I think. This sort of thing goes way back with guys like Ted Williams, Steve Carlton, Jim Rice facing tougher criticisms because of how they dealt with the press.

I think that, far and away....

#1 is the way he treated the media. You're a reporter, you have a job. The Pats lose and say Brady limps off the field. A reporter has to ask "How is Tom?" and all he gets is "We're on to Cincinnati" or some other smart aleck insulting response. Respect that people have jobs to do.

#2 is the way he ran up scores and embarrassed other team and coaches. He quit the Jets on a cocktail napkin and kept their bonus. He embarrassed Adam Gase in a blowout taking false starts and delay of games to waste clock, laughing on the sidelines.

#3? He cheated. More than once. And showed no remorse with a big fyou attitude the entire time.

I don't think the next factors had anything to do with the HOF snub, but in the last 6-7 years he:

Had horrible seasons with the Pats
Didn't even speak to Mac Jones who's proving to be a pretty good QB
Watched Brady win a ring with a new team in year 1
No NFL team wanted any part of him
Fell on his face in UNC
Had Vrabel and a 2nd yr QB get to the SB
The whole girlfriend situation

Just a nightmare last chapter to a great coaching resume to that point.

It's idiotic, if Belichick isn't a first ballot Hall of Famer than nobody is.

Canton now has the same credibility as Cooperstown, none.

All that happened here is they destroyed their own credibility and Bill Polian made himself look like a very small person.

Baseball: Cheating okay, see Beltran, Carlos.
Football: Cheating bad, see Belichick, Bill.
A head scratcher.

I agree 1000% he's a first ballot hall of famer.
I also am not the least bit surprised that the hazing, petty part of HOF voting committees did this.

Keep in mind, Mariano Rivera is the only baseball player ever with a unanimous vote into the Baseball HOF. Voters do spiteful, petty things because that's the one area they actually have power. I don't agree with it...but it's reality.

For baseball, it seems to depend on who's doing the cheating.

Otherwise, Bonds, Clemens, and some others would be in.

.-.
302-165. Two Super Bowl rings as a coordinator and six as a head coach in twelve appearances. It's pettiness, pure and simple. The only thing that would make it more petty is if Eli Manning (who has the credentials for the Hall of Very Good, but should not get a gold jacket.) did get elected.

The NFL does not have a Morals Clause for the HoF. On field/in-game performance is all that should matter. The NFL media is filled with a bunch of babies, not the least of whom being Bill Polian.

What are the reasons to keep him out?
Spygate: Nothing that wasn't done for seasons previous. Had the camera been at the press level and not at field level, it would have been a non-issue. Regardless, both Belichick ($500,000 fine) and the Patriots ($250,000 fine. Loss of a 1st Rd draft pick) were punished, paid their penance, and still went to six more Super Bowls, winning three. It also ushered in a period of improved and more efficient use of technology. Hand signals are not a big part of playcalling anymore, with helmet speaker.

Treatment of Media: This is only what the fans saw. One-on-one, Belichick was very open with members of the media. Michael Holley was granted complete access in the early 2000s including the first super bowl win over "The Greatest Show on Turf." No coach, let alone Belichick, actually knows the severity of an injury during the post game presser and every coach does this now.

Ted Williams (93.4%) and Steve Carlton (95.6% ) were 1st ballot Hall of Famers, regardless of how they treated the media. He got in on his final year of eligibility by way of BBWAA vote and some say because he was a member of the media by that time. Jim Rice had just above boarderline HoF numbers, but was one of the most feared hitters of the late 70s/early 80s. Belichick is not Jim Rice.
One year at UNC has no bearing on The PRO Football HoF.

Finally, 6/53 players played for both Belichick and Vrabel, counting the punter and a guy who was traded off the team under Vrabel. Attaching any justification to this year's team is a stretch at best. Rod Woodson, Dermontti Dawson, Carnell Lake, Jerry Olsavsky, and Barry Foster all played for both Chuck Noll and went to the Super Bowl under Bill Cowher. By that logic, Noll is not a 1st Ballot HoFer? Ditto for Tom Landry (Jim Jeffcoat, Bill Bates, Mark Tunei, and Larry Brown.).

Most potential reasons have already been covered. One that wasn’t is that voters have a limited number of votes. It is possible that some left off Bill since this was last year to vote for LC Greenwood or Roger Craig. However, this does not seem likely since I believe 11 voters did not vote for Bill. He’ll probably get in next year. It is comical and gutless that Bill P from Indianapolis can’t remember how he voted.

Let’s be honest. It’s pretty simple.

Does he deserve to be in? Absolutely.
Will he get in next year? Probably.
Is this a message that you should conduct yourself a certain way? It’s not just what you accomplish but how you do it? Yes.

Totally agree. This was a way for the voters who have no or very limited power to send that message. Some people, familiar with the voting process, believe full disclosure of the voting results would stop this nonsense.

Just saw a reel where someone suggested Belichick should tell Canton he is removing himself from future consideration. That would completely discredit the HOF and always shine the light on the petty actions that just took place. He could even go one step further and request all the items in the HOF that he allowed them to display be removed as well.

Not sure he wants any more publicity on this, but I'd laugh if he pulled something like this.

Let's really be honest. Deflategate was entirely fake, and if anything Polian should be punished for that travesty. Along with his constant rule changes because he couldn't beat New England. Spygate was real, but a complete nothingburger. Half the teams did the same thing, it's legal to "steal signs" as long as you don't video and it provided no advantage whatsoever (as Bill admitted to Kraft). So the real reason is petty jealousy.

Why the hell isn't Adam Vinatieri a first ballot HOF player? He's the greatest kicker of all time. Why isn't Rodney Harrison in? He's far better than several who are. Let's see what they do with Brady when his turn comes. And Gronk. There's a large group out there, led by Polian, that simply hates the Patriots because they achieved what their own pathetic franchises only dreamed of. Now they are back again and the anger is rising.

And as bad as the Pro Football and Baseball HOF are, nothing is as awful as the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Some great rock bands not in it, while pop stars and rappers are.

As a football historian, I doubt Belichick would ever think of removing his name from HOF consideration. Many pundits thought that he had a pretty good day yesterday with the snub. Many were actually supporting him.

But that would be funny. A few years ago I entertained the thought of Caitlin Clark messing with the US Olympic committee by stating that she was not interested in future Olympics when she wasn’t picked for the Paris team.

lol Stephen A Smith the voice of reason here wow.

Regarding Belichick not getting into the HOF well Bill Parcells didn't get in his 1st year of eligibility either, TO had to wait as well. Guess Bill pissed off enough media members.

Vinatieri will get in and I have no problem with a kicker not getting into the HOF on the first ballot. I think there's only two field goal kickers in the HOF. I didn't realize Rodney Harrison isn't in the HOF, I thought he was that caliber of player because of his years with the Chargers. He was a stud and I used to rock a Harrison Chargers jersey. I looked him up and he just doesn't have the personal achievements to be a Hall of Famer and he got popped for HGH.

The BIll Belichick thing is beyond absurd. I hope he tells them to F off.

You left out Papi somehow in the baseball cheating line. That’s even more of an impact comparison than Beltran.

What if a voter said no this time, why would he change next time? It’s ridiculous he should be a first ballot no doubt.
