Common Roots Coffee Cup.

Double Coffee Stout. It's all coffee and caramel. They're coffee roasters in addition to brewers so they infuse their stout with their coffee.

Honestly, it's like dessert beer.

I actually checked the Beer Advocate rating for this because I was convinced that beer dorks probably love it and they apparently do.

When your admin assistant says she'll be in Cape Cod and asks if there is a brewery I want her to go to. I respond, "Will you be near Sandwich?"

Human Condition. A stout with coffee, choklit and coconut.

For the record, the second best brewery on the Cape is Aquatic in Falmouth. Would probably go Naukabout #3 and Barnstable Brewing #4. Fishy might prefer Devil's Purse, their Kolsch is quite good.

If anyone is interested in a fun Sunday (starting at noon), we are holding the sixth edition of the Friends of Marlowe share. We are a social bunch and we don’t bite. Bring some high quality stuff to share… cans, bottles, crowler. Enjoy the new batch of Zac’s Marlito corn lager, and this brand new 4.2%er, hopped with Freestyle Nelson and Motueka….

Were you at the 1-year Anniversary where there was a share outside?

I was at the Marlowe launch party in November 2019 (me with a young version of Zac below). I know I missed one in North Haven. Not sure if it was the first or second anniversary. But I didn’t get there til Saturday night anyway. Share by the front of the brewhouse indoors by that point in the day.

I’m not going because I would start fights and beat up the nerds, but Devil’s Purse is having some pickle beer party this weekend. My favorite of their beers is probably the one they made for the Squire.

I’m not going because I would start fights and beat up the nerds. But I did pick up a new (for me) Marlowe on my Halftime trip this weekend - “Smells Like Spring.”

I have not tried it so I do not know if it smells like spring.

Generally, I go to Halftime beverage about once a month or so and I buy four of whatever so that I can enlighten you monkeys on the world outside of your dumb IPAs. But I hadn’t been for a while, so I had to go to the garage and start sampling the orphans left over from the beers that people brought over from the holidays. I’d mostly been avoiding them, but I wanted a beer on the deck and any port in a storm.

Saranac Caramel Porter.

I actually quite liked it. It was exactly what the label said it would be. Plus, when you open it, a new solar system bursts out the top of the bottle.

Get it. It doesn’t smell like spring. False advertising. It does, however, smell like the best Italian Pilsner you’ve ever had. You can actually taste the tears of Italian Peroni drinkers.

Rivertrail Beerworks, New York Maple Cream Ale.

You will never be able to find it and if you find it, pretend you didn’t.

I don’t know what I was expecting but whatever it was, it did not happen here. I can’t say it was terrible, but I can say that it was so mid that I didn’t bother to finish it. Should have used the syrup on a waffle instead.

I meant 1st year anniversary at Mamaroneck.

Best Italian Pilsner I've had was at Long Live in Providence. Why would I even order such a thing you ask? Because 3/4 of their lineup is double IPAs, mixed in with big stouts and sometimes you just need a break.

Does it smell like spring? No. Is there a faint floral taste reminiscent of Fabuloso? Yes.

In a nod to the old Axis powers, an Italian Pilsner made with German hops. Look out North Africa, the gang is back together.

It was fine. Will appeal to you IPA nerds when no one is looking and you need a break. Likely a one and done for me.

"Beer expert! I have no access to the fancy beers that you review! Don't forget about the people."

I am for the people. Look what I drank for the people.

First, a serving note. I put this in the freezer until ice crystals formed. I expected the worst and wanted to give it every chance to succeed and I figured sub-zero was its best hope.

So, is this good? Not really. Is it bad? Not really. It's very watery and completely neutral. If you can keep it ice cold and you want to drill ten of these on the beach, it's perfect. I'll chose Narragansett's all day every day, but these are fine for the job they're intended to do.

The one "lime" beer I think is good is the Lawson's (not my picture)

Super juicy. Thick a f. Super hopped.

Not great but not bad, either. Heavy price tag but had to try.

Two of my fave hops are innit...Krush and Nectaron...yet not blown away.

“Beer Expert! I live in some place called Oxford, Connecticut and I don’t have a car or a bike or really any means to leave this town! What can I drink?”

That is a question I get a lot as a Beer Expert.

No idea where that place is but this beer comes from there. And it’s really good - looking at their website, they look like they make a lot of interesting shit and I will try to find more of it.

Hard to find in the wild - worth the trip there. (I'm in the next town over)

Visited the very first pub in Prague to serve Pilsner Urquell.

Neat place. As you would expect in an 1800's pub, the beer was stored in a basement with ice. So, the bartenders would have to go down the stairs to get beer and then go back up.

Nowadays they run a yearly festival where bartenders carry 10 1/2 liter beers up 41 steps through the bar.

Nocni mura is Czech for nightmare. Which is what it felt like carrying beer all night.

OEC’s traditional styles and downright weird stuff are great. Brewery is also great place to sip, then grab some ice cream at Rich Farm. We live in crazy beer times that I can get about a half dozen different OEC beers at Trader Joe’s in Stamford. Never would have imagined that as recently as five years ago.

I don’t know where Oxford is and my travels in Connecticut for the near future include one trip to Danbury as early as tomorrow and then a weekend out in New London in mid-May. After that, I might never see the state again, so my options are limited.

But Halftime has an OEC Czech dark lager that I will snap up.

When you go out to New London, you NEED to stop at Fox Farm in Salem on the way. Worth the detour off 95, I assure you.
