A gift from my sis in law. Purchased at Grand Central in NYC.

A Westie IIPA called 4242. A collab from Weldwerks and Fremont Brewing out in Colorado.

Damned tasty today.

I cut out the important part but I love that can art.

Marlowe’s annual anniversary DIPA, Against All Odds. This year’s version is dry hopped with some nice late-harvest Nelson from NZ. Wonderful, dangerously easy-drinking DIPA.

Planning to wear UConn attire to the Beervana Fest this Saturday. I'm going to the 1:00 session. Say hello if you're there. This is always an amazing event and the new location is a big improvement. Some tickets still remain.

Seems none of you made it. Excellent Beervana. Here is the official beer list. A few unofficial beers appeared. Beervana Fest 2024 Guidebook

highlights. Both J Wakefield stouts were incredible. The Dark Lord variant was almost as good. Some good IPAs bit nothing unique. Two “sour” beers that were not sour were excellent. One a peanut butter and jelly, the other a cider donut sour. Both were mind blowing.

What would possess someone to create (or try) a peanut butter and jelly beer or an cider donut beer?

Hudson Valley Brewery’s apple cider donut Silhouette is a delicious sour IPA fall beer.

To each his own I guess, but sour and IPA, especially with apple cider donut flavoring added seems to me that they're tryng to pile on as many things as possible into a beer.

I love hops way more than the next guy, but has anyone enjoyed a pilsner or kolsch lately? Something that's difficult to brew well without hiding behind 5+% alcohol, pb&j (or donuts or duck fat, lemongrass or whatever), and a lot of hops?

I loved the original Dogfish Worldwide stout. But beer doesn't have to stop you in your tracks and attack your taste buds to be great.

And "New England" style IPAs didn't exist for the 40 years that I lived in New England. I assume that the lazy/hazy IPAs are largely a response to Heady Topper? The Alchemist tapproom (RIP) was one of a kind, as was their beer. In general, the majority of the current "hazy" IPAs that have flooded the market suck IMHO. So there"s that! ;)

There were loads of people in line for the PBJ beer once word got out. It wasn‘t sour at all. Just had a light base. It smelled like fresh peanut butter and fresh jelly. I agree it’s weird and I wouldn’t have tried it if one of our group hadn’t suggested it.

I have avoided drinking brewskies during October. By October 7th I had the shakes. Today, I barely think about drinking one except when sitting outside Saturday nights by a fire.

On Friday, November 1st, I'm taking the day off. Will be at Outer Light to enjoy a glass, and pick up my cans of BA Pitch and Roll. Then, off to Tox on the way home.

I’m the opposite. Hate Torpedo. Don’t like Stone stuff either. Can’t tolerate all that bitterness. The real key to the New England style is that you get the actual hop flavor profiles rather than just bitterness, because most aren’t added to the boil. So much more variety.

Fortunately we can all drink what we like.

How are the Oktoberfests going for you folks? Alvarium Hedwig was great and Firefly Hollow's was a very good Marzen. I'm not a huge Norbrook Brewing fan but their Okt was pretty decent as well. Sierra's Oktoberfest is again a collaboration with Brauerei Gutmann and is always good.

I stopped going out of my way lookinig for Marzens years ago. We're lucky in Pgh to have Penn Brewery, which is more or less a traditional German-style brewery, although it does some newer stuff at times. Very good Marzen, no need to look around. We also have one of three Hofbrauhaus locations in the US, and they have tanks of the stuff come September. Absolutely no need to check out the microbreweries to sate that particular style.

They all wrapped up a few weeks ago around here (metro-west Mass/northern RI). Missed most of them. I got the Lawson's Fest beer and pronounce it to be quite good. Neighbor gave me a Spaten the other day, obviously good.

The best Marzen style I had was a smoked version from Treehouse. Have 3 cans left.

I just had a can of Human Robot marzen and it’s spectacular. Immer Wieder from Marlowe is also fantastic. Agree with @HuskyHawk about Slow Burn. It’s so unique. I still have a can of Sierra Nevada’s collab with Gutmann, which delivers everything you want in a marzen. I could drink the style year round and be content.
