yup

The Lack of LB production makes you wonder what Todd Orlando brought all those years ago. Because ... while I have hope for Kevon Jones ... there isn't much buzz coming from the Wholley guys. Beavers has size and talent; so, this is a logical next step. He's a typology none of the others are. LB? Gardner or Harris next year; try others as they mature. But this is woeful.

Like this move. Maybe we can now scheme a pass rush, put a potential blitzer next to Beavers and occasionally drop Beavers back into a LB position to keep the offensive line confused.

TJ Gardner is another player who probably has the physical talent to move to DE. I also liked Gardner's potential as a tight end coming out of high school.

Why would we move a 3* LB to TE lmao - we haven't gotten any productivity from that group so let's move one of the guys who can contribute and move him to TE...

Because we seem to be looking at a future where only two LB's are on the field at a time. I'm just pointing out that there are other possible moves if it doesn't work out at LB. I hope Gardner becomes a stud at Linebacker but I was also hoping Beavers would be a stud linebacker, I really don't care where anybody plays.

Hunter Webb, when he plays someday will be a force. Seems to have a real nose for the ball and flat out hits people. I thought he might be a guy who played this year but haven t heard a word about him

We're all in on the move to a 4-3. He's built in the mode of Cody Brown and Jesse Joseph. To be honest, he had shown nothing from LB spot.
Can't use his edge rush skills in the Betty Crocker front seven system... That might work with more experienced personnel but we can't do that now.. we need somebody to put pressure on the opposing D's QB

Let him sit, grow a little into a bigger frame, and learn... Wouldn't be surprised if he takes somebody's spot in a year or 2...

Why was out defense lining up so far away there spacing was off. I saw this later in the game. That gives any offense line leverage. If anyone else saw this or didn’t see it play some third quarter tape

More Marcus Campbell/Trevardo Williams, but your point is correct. We used to call the weakside DE the bandit end, and it was often a large LB who was more about pressure on the QB than controlling the line against interior runs.

It is woeful and a half. In fairness, however, look at most of our best LBs. Fincher redshirted. 'Bama -- redshirted. Lutrus -- redshirted. Mo Lloyd -- redshirted. Danny Lansanah -- redshirted. Sio Moore -- redshirted. Not every LB is going to be as good as those guys. Not every LB Edsall recruited the first time was as good as those guys. But we are asking guys to do something that we never asked our NFL LBs to do.

This is a very good point. LBs need to be fully ready physically and most kids coming right out of HS are not. They also need experience to learn and see the field. My hope is we have something to work with in K Jones.

This team needs more speed. Any frosh with talent needs to play this year. Even if we are under size at some spots it is evident that we need to take more chances (personnel and scheme).

Randy will be able to add 3 more classes before the frosh are seniors. Some who start now will have to fight for their position in 2-3 years. I am not ready to worry about the 21/22 season

is this move an indictment on Wholley?

How do we go from initially thinking a 350 lb Travis jones best fits at DE for us to thinking a 225 lb Beavers is the best fit?

That seems to be an inconsistent defensive philosophy. At this point, we’re just throwing stuff against the wall in hopes that it sticke

The idea behind a 350lb defensive end is that your OLB types Beavers, Terry and Thomas could fly off the edge and bring pressure. Through 2 games that hasn't really come close to happening. I think they've seen enough to shake things up. I give them credit. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing expecting a different result.

Now who ever would leave UConn only to reappear at Delaware? Oh....never mind.

Agree, it seems inconsistent with the entire previous 14 games. Starting 2017 it seemed to be known that the returning upper class players were not ideal for Croker's defense but it was for some reason important to put those round pegs into the square holes. Got to get the defensive system in for future years, even though many of the starters were seniors.
The staff gets to see spring ball, know who is coming in as true freshman, no one of significance on defense leaves before the 2018 season starts and yet continue to promote the Crocker defensive scheme as the way to go starting 2018.
1st 2 games of 2018 is abysmal failure on defense and now we need edge rushers and the 350 pound freshman lineman is no longer a DE type.
Seems like some serious personnel judgement failures on defense. What was the big surprise on defense performance these 1st 2 games that a veteran head coach in his second year with the team couldn't anticipate?
Got to be competitive with RI. No one is coming down hard on being overmatched against the 1st 2 opponents (but really, that overmatched?) but RI beat Delaware by only 2 in a score of 21-19.
Just saw something pretty funny on Massey, actually sad. UConn is the 3rd highest ranked opponent for RI this year behind James Madison (pretty good FCS team year in and year out) and Maine. Put your head around that, Maine is rated as better than UConn so far in 2018.

I was questioning Pudge's statement about Wholley's guys not getting much buzz lack of production. Wholley doesn't have much to work with tbh. we don't have personnel for the D crocker wanted to run

I know he is an alum, but sometimes I wonder if he is all sizzle no steak. Fist pumps and moxie are great, but Orlando and Lyndon those guys churned backers like nobody's business. Underrated name, Razul Wallace who would be supplanted by Fincher. Guy made like 20 tackles one game I saw.
