From the courant's notes from BE media day http://courantblogs.com/uconn-men/m...a-day-big-east-tournament-stays-in-big-apple/

"I spoke to a few Big East officials here about the UConn’s chances of convincing the league to relent and allow the Huskies to play in the Garden. No one wanted to address it on the record, but the gist is, it’s very, very unlikely. However, there is a Big East presidents meeting schedule for November in Chicago where they could bring the matter up.
Aresco noted only that not allowing an NCAA ineligible team to participate in the Big East Tournament was “a policy that has been establish by our presidents.”"
A little further down they asked Boeheim about it since the BE allowed SU to play in 93 when they were banned.

Don't they understand precedence in law?

You'd think the Big East would want one of its last remaining founding teams to play in its tournament. You'd also think the league would have that team's back against an unjust rule set by the NCAA. Oh well, we'll see.

Keep in mind West Virginia is gone this year so it happens to work out that there will still be an even number of teams going into the Big East Tournament if UConn is held out. I hope this does not effect their decision to let us back in. If by some chance we can play, they would also have to change the format since there happens to only be 15 teams this year. Im sure behind closed doors that would be the main reason to still keep us out.

With 5 rounds and the number of teams in the teens, starting with an even or odd number of teams has no impact on the format. You just give an extra team a first round bye.

The BE can suck it. A UCONN student could save a box of kittens from a fire these days and somehow someone will find a way to dump on us.
The right thing to do would be to help pump up one of your premier programs and let kids play that had nothing to do with an APR score that was too low. Who has done more for men's basketball in the BE? No one.

Too bad we are not in the ACC- we could make up fake classes and cheat and they seem to find a way to say no rules were broken (hell they might even give us a bye in the first round of the ACCT for low APR scores)- or - a player on our team could buy 100K worth of Bling and- wait for it- no problem here.

PE-TOOWEY!!!! Over it already.

There is no chance UConn is playing in the BET.

It will cost the Big East roughly $0 if we're excluded and they will make about $0 more if we're somehow allowed to play.

The fact that Syracuse was allowed to play 20 years ago doesn't matter.

Why doesn't the Big East ban Syracuse and Pitt from the tournament? A big on the way out of the conference.

I don't recall the details that well, but I think in fact it was somewhat controversial that Syracuse was allowed ot play. there was also a concern about what would happen if they won. After that the rule was changed. UConn should just accept that our seaosn ends with the regular season. All this begging is becoming unseemly.
