BC Post Game Thread

Shooting will come, mostly liked what I saw from Ross and Stewie, and Mullins picked it up but gotta stay out of foul trouble, kind of goes for everyone.

Karaban rebounded very well, not a ton else to discern. Liked the focus on transition offense.

Not much to take away from an exhibition against BC especially with Tarris and Demary out. So many missed layups and threes, D looked elite for most of the first half.

Jayden looked totally lost in the first half but may have been our best player in the second half. I really hope the light bulb flicks on for him this season and he becomes a valuable rotation player because Jayden and Braylon are the closest thing we have to elite athletes on this team. I know I keep harping on it but this is not an athletic team by our standards. I do think our defense is going to be way better than last season with Braylon, Silas, and Malachi D'ing up on the perimeter.

Are tattoos on the way out? I thought it was painful to watch at times but was an exhibition game after all. Defense was great, but the fouling was frustrating.

It was kind of exactly what you expect from an exhibition. Dominated the first 15, fell apart the middle 10, dominated the last 15. BC is not good at all so the MSU game will be more important in judging the squad this early. No Reed or Demary of course hurts overall production on offensive end.

Hard to take too much from that with two starters out. A lot of minutes from guys that won’t be consistent parts of the rotation. This team was missing some shot creation tonight, which makes sense since Tarris and Demary are probably the two guys best suited to do that.

  • Freshmen unsurprisingly have some work to do, especially on defense, but nice flashes from both Mullins and Reibe.
  • Smith is going to be a great backup point guard and gives the coaching staff a lot of flexibility.
  • The shooting was rough but generally good shot selection and open looks. That doesn’t concern me at all.
  • Ross had a nice stretch in the second half. Had a few nice defensive possessions and even looked a bit more decisive on offense. Hoping he can start to show a little consistency.
  • Having Millender as a third PG is huge. So much more ball handling on this team than last year.

I thought Stewart looked worst defensively than last year. How is that possible? Definitely Mullins will start. I do like we have a deeper team. I like the D from Ross(Only fell for one up fake) and team overall depth. Millender and Koroma gave us some great minutes. I dont like that we fall in love with the 3 too much. We have to make a an effort going to the basket. I did like when we went small as we played better D and also went to the basket more. Reibe needs some time to develop. I just like the overall depth we have this year. I mean we have 3 PGs something we sorely missed last year. Koroma definitely will be an adequate Center if the other 2 get in foul trouble. Overall I like what I saw as a whole even if some of the individual efforts were subpar.

Who is Kayla Burton? 👍
Burton graduated from Lehigh University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a minor in Africana Studies. While at Lehigh, she was a standout for the NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball team. She then went on to earn her Master's degree from Syracuse Newhouse School.

A lot of fouling, in the first minute both halves but nice to see Reibe only picked up two and played well for a first game IMO. Glad to see them pivot from shooting 3s when it was clear they were not connecting tonight. I think overall the guys are looking good and this is a promising start. Curious to see what Demary looks like on the court.

Good to see some of the new pieces. Hard to take too much away from a game this early that we don't have 2 of our best & most important players on the floor.

We can probably park any ideas of Furphy having a lot of impact this season. He is pretty clearly a developmental piece. Mullins looks really, really young. He is not Castle or even McNeeley in terms of being mature physically coming into college. I don't want to speculate on him being OAD or not, this early, but he doesn't look like a kid that is auto-slated to go after one year.

We were god awful and over-reliant from 3. I think we are going to see a lot of rotations with Silas/Malachi this year to create more playmaking & to bring some dog/athletecism to the floor. Our best defensive units would probably include both of them out there as well.
