Had my first chance to see the squad and was really pleased with what I saw.

Returners
  • Sims is as good as ever. So easy to take her for granted because you know what you are going to get every game.
  • Higgins has lost weight and was very active around the basket. I expect big things out of her this year. I see her much in the mold of Dolson as she can step 15 to 20 feet from the basket and drain those shots.
  • Prince is out 6 weeks with a foot injury. I am fearful that this may be something that plagues her for the rest of her career.
  • Johnson is a very good passer and ball handler. She is also deceptively good with her mid-range game and at getting to the basket. No three point range to speak of.
  • Robertson will continue to be a role player, although she got more minutes that any other player in this game. Hmmmm
  • Chandler will also be a role player. I give up the dream that she will get back to her pre ACL injury level.
  • Agbuke can hit the outside shot but just seems too awkward, IMO, to do much damage in the paint.
  • Fuqua will lose out on playing time to the freshmen guards. She is a long defender on the perimeter but at this point does not have the offensive gave to be impactful.
The freshmen are going to get a LOT of playing time. They are a really good group and will keep Baylor at least in top 10 contention throughout their careers.
  • Ieshia Small is a BALLER! She can handle the ball, pass very well, shoot the three, hit the mid-range jumper and finish around the basket. Very good at leading the break. An immediate impact player who will be another go-to player, along with Sims.
  • Cave was the biggest surprise. She is long and lean at 6-4 and has long arms and runs the floor very well. She was great on the boards and also finishes really well around the basket. How she was not ranked coming out of HS is beyond me. Gonna be a good one!
  • Wright is good off the dribble and from three point range. Her game resembles Small quite a bit and I suspect that she may be on the floor at the end of a lot of games.
  • Davis is a great athlete who can finish at the basket and grab rebounds. Not sure how she got away from Tennessee.
  • Hayden did not play...not sure why

Is she 6'4"? Or 6''2" as the Baylor site has her?

Thanks for the insight!

I for one am not counting out Baylor for anything! Why? Simms! I think Baylor will have games that her sheer willpower gains the Bears a mark in the win column.

I just remember what she did in the final minutes of the Louisville game to get Baylor back into the game. She is a great guard.

ETT: let's get you on the record [so we can make fun of you if you are wrong].

Score prediction for UConn at Baylor in the upcoming game?

That, and also what ETT expects Baylors record this year to be. I know she (ETT is a woman I believe - apologies if I got that wrong) thinks they are a top 10 team but I just don't see it.

I predict that Baylor will lose one OOC game, to UCONN, in a blowout. UCONN is going to win by 30+. I look for Baylor to lose several conference games as these young players will need an adjustment period to learn how to play on the road in the Big 12. I look for them to go 12-6 in conference play but win the Big 12 tournament championship.

Now that I have moved from Denver to Dallas I will get to see a lot of games this year! I am excited to be closer to the action.

Let's just say that I will be going to Waco on January 13 to get a look at UCONN, not hoping for a Baylor win. But it will be fun to see which players setp up for Baylor and show how good they really are. It will be a measuring-stick game for me to determine how far they can go in the Big Dance.
