Battle for the 1st Southwick Jug

Personally, it amuses me to think of Mora after the game saying "give me the dang trophy bitches"
If it were something that resembled a real trophy, maybe, but that thing looks like a spitoon that a third grader made in arts & crafts at summer camp.

Have you even seen what some of these other trophies look like? Obviously you haven't.

This is beautiful.

We shamed them by beating them, and then we shamed them with their very own trophy (which was made with the intent to shame us in the event of a UMass win, no doubt).

So they have to eat their shame twice...

I listened briefly to a UMass Spaces last night. Their fans are irate and dumbfounded by what the AD did. It's a fan created trophy and until recently they had buy in from UMass and UConn reportedly. If the school had just let us take the trophy, they would have been happy because the whole idea was to create a little tradition.

Also if they just let us take it, they just avoid yet another public relations debacle. The fired a popular coach who many felt was on the right track even if the results weren't evident yet, the senior day thing, cutting ties with a collective that was the only bright spot in a moribund program.... I don't know how this AD keeps his job, I guess the Admin just doesn't care at all. The football program is 8-56 under this AD.

Sounds like they still have buy-in from one of those schools.

Hopefully the next AD listens and finds this little clay pot and creates a little tradition or something. If their fans were cool with it I think it would be something that could possibly catch. Traditions have start somehow. This debacle could help start this one.

I assume it's named after Southwick because of the notch. I think it should either represent both states or all of new england. Something along the line of MassConnfusion. Or the Northeast in case it may also include Buffalo at some point. A regional trophy.

Perhaps another symbol of New England like a lighthouse, pine tree, boats, whales... I like a keg better than a jug but either is fine.

As much as I like Don Brown, it was time for him to go. With UMass losing 54 (!) seniors, Brown turning 70, and they are heading to a conference, the program needs a total reset. And, the early signing period is this week and the portal opens in a week, so they need a new coach in place quickly.

It’s not about the jug, but what you put inside the jug.
That was my take too. I figured there would be some old legend tale that went along with it.

"The jug is said to contain the milk of the Randall Lineback, the breed of cattle native to New England. Legend has it that on the eve of the rivalry game, the cold winds and snow from the Nor'easter turn the milk into ale. Although the jug is retained by the winning team, the ale is shared amongst all participants as they sing and share camaraderie long into the night." Or something.
