Basketball players sue NCAA over NIL use in March Madness promos (several UConn players included)

The compensation game is just nuts. Anytime anyone uses any part of my name in a sentence publicly better pay me money.

This is my problem. Where does it end? Next thing you know, players are going to be demanding payment from the NCAA or carriers everytime a game with them in it is broadcasted.

Wasn't Boat held out from playing while the NCAA "investigated" his Mom's bank accounts all the while selling Boatright jerseys? Yeah I hope our guys get something out of this
Good memory! I forgot what a shaft to Boat that was at the time when some folks in the NCAA were practicing a weird form of equality among its members. Uconn was an NCAA whipping boy in those days. Important to remember the anguish of Boat at the time with all that weight hanging over him when he was just a teenager. I can't speak about the others because of the retroactive nature of the lawsuit prior to the NIL changes but sometimes "overdue justice" to some comes through the wisdom of a higher power who "frowns on bullies." Reminiscent of the wheels of justice which sometimes seem to turn slowly but later prove to have perfect timing. Boat will always have a special place in the hearts of Uconn fans. An amazing amount of toughness and a champion.

Attorneys make 98,000,000

Players split 2,000,000

Another injustice fixed

Why sue the NCAA , wasn’t it their school that profited from their image?
How did the NCAA profit ?
To be honest I understand the reason suits are aimed at the organization.
The NCAA is viewed a a repository of cash
It is like when the criminal Willie Sutton was asked “ Why do you rob banks?”
He replied “Because that’s were the money is”

Just curious, could players do this against their old conference or the College Football Playoff?

.-.
Just do away with all highlights of any college basketball ever played and erase all the One Shining Moment videos.

^ THIS would be pathetic.

If you want the sugar rush of hyperbolic drama queen sarcasm eat a bag of bulk candy.

EDIT: Perfect that @freescooter agrees with you.

Do we all understand how insanely stupid it is that this is a Congressional issue?! I remember when college athletes were happy to be going to college for free.
FWIW: “House” is the name of the lawsuit (Grant House v. NCAA)

I don't have much of a problem with players, current or former, being compensated for their name image or likeness being used to make a profit, like on actual merchandise. But simply showing highlights of previous games or championship teams isn't selling anything or profiting off of those players.

It would depend how the highlights are used. If it is to attract an audience to a future game then I would argue it is being used for advertising.

NCAA set the rules. Which have now been ruled an antitrust violation. The only way you can avoid antitrust is for the universities to have collective bargaining with the athletes at the schools who participate. Most fair proposal would have a separate collective bargaining agreement with each sports team - Football, men's basketball, women's basketball etc. What throws a wrench in the negotiations is if Title IX applies. I think it should not apply but not sure how courts will rule on this issue.
