STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore guard Brianna Banks underwent a successful surgical procedure on her right knee to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament on Thursday, March 14 at the University of Connecticut Health Center. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Arciero. Banks is expected to be ready for the start of the 2013-14 season and has two years of eligibility remaining.

The Newnan, Ga. native suffered the injury during UConn's 71-65 victory at St. John's on February 2.

"I am very pleased that the procedure on Brianna's knee was a success," head coachGeno Auriemma said. "I know she will work extremely hard during the rehabilitation process and look forward to her being back on the floor next season."

Very glad to hear that it all went smoothly! Of course, these doctors and the rehab professionals are all the *best* so that doesn't hurt either.

Brianna will be back in action before we know it!

Much needed good news for Husky Nation. Wishing Brianna all the best in her recovery.

.-.
As of now: guards for next year

senior Bria
junior Brianna
soph Moriah
frosh Saniya

forward/guard swing: KML.

We need 'em all.

Interesting that our first game will be hosting Stanford....talk about throwing Saniya in the deep end of the pool right away.

Great news. Caroline and Shea can help Brianna based on their experiences.

Is the Breanna Pope girl also a guard? If she walks on?

.-.
Looking forward to seeing her next year...

Let us all hope, that her recovery is great and her strength returns, with no chance of repeating through her college days.

I was surprised they say she'll be ready at the start of next season.

Isn't there some strengthening work they can do prior to the surgery that can shorten the recovery a bit? I seem to remember hearing about other players who delayed surgery and in the meantime worked on strengthening the muscles and ligaments around the knee. Maybe I am off base?

Why? If there are no complications, then 6-7 months is normal. Some players have even returned in less time than that.

It's now been three months and no news is good news. I'm sure Banks is rehabbing hard and she is on course to be ready for the start of the season.

That means ready to play. And certainly not 1/2 a player.

I'm pretty sure that Pope will walk on this year, giving Uconn a roster of 10 strong. If Ekmark joins the 2013 class with Chong? This team is as deep with talent as any previous Uconn teams.

Fingers crossed for good health.

How could Ekmark join the 2013 class with Chong. She's senior this year, or did I miss something?

You missed something.

She is only a couple of credits short of graduating. She could take summer courses, graduate and then attend UConn.

Ah, I just read the story about her Dad and saw that she has finished her coursework. What do you think? Do you wish she would come now or in 2014?

Me? Well, selfishly, I would love to see her in 2013. With 7 scholies left for 2014.

But whatever is best for her is fine with me.

All else being equal, I'd rather a player be older -- more physically and mentally mature -- rather than younger.

Same reason big-time football routinely redshirts freshmen, and if a "true freshman" does something great it's news.

I agree about being older, but she's already 18. And, given a 2013 class of only 1, this may be a good idea overall.

I agree that this might be a good idea. She'd certainly learn a lot, and she might get more playing time, given the shorter roster.

If her course work is done, why hang around high school...or travel the nation to "find herself"?

JS made a very good point. If shes ready come if not wait a year. We're loaded this season and even though she most likely will get playtime and experience it may be better for her to come next season. Hey I would love to have her this season but only if she's ready.

You know, there is more to life than basketball. There is something about your senior year in high school that could be very special. She should do whatever works for her. But you can only be a high school senior once (at least most of us), and UConn will still be here when she is finished. Of course, she should do whatever she feels works best for her, but I wouldn't want my daughter to forgo her senior year in high school.

She should think about what's best for her...not an easy decision in my view, but UCONN wins either way...
