B1G Ramblings

An example of the linear thinking that has killed UConn athletics was the decision to stay in the AAC to collect a few million more in exit fees when the smart move would have been to leave with the Big East in 2012. UConn's basketball program would never have hit the decline it did in the mid-2010's, and the football program would have been better off independent than in that Deliverance Hell Hole of a conference we were in. We would have been invited to the Big 12 as full members when Texas and Oklahoma left.

The AAC fanboys only have themselves to blame for that one.
That’s a hindsight take…
was UConn even invited to join bb onlies?
hardly a crazy concept to join similar schools that played BB and FB, especially with UConn’s recent inclusion in BCS and efforts to get back there.
UConn could hardly compete in AAC as it struggled to keep up with coaching changes, funding for said coaches, and administrative support for FB. You think going Indy would have been successful?

Pssh, if you're going to victory lap on an LED board, at least pick a full sized one. Although, I'm sure this one seems big if you're coming from the Midwest.

Winter sports season has mostly wrapped up and the PAC schools (at least Oregon and UCLA) are representing in the B1G championships once more......

Indiana currently has the No. 1 transfer portal class nationally in 2026 in BOTH football and men's basketball.

Indiana is emerging like Rome in the Mediterranean after the second Punic War. 🤣

If the Big 10 wants to make NYC work for it then dump moribund Rutgers and bring on the Huskies! (You can have two Husky teams in the Big 10 - just like Hockey East does!)
Hell, the SEC has two Bulldogs and THREE Tigers

All that talk about the Big East and ACC merging as though we've forgotten why the original BE split in the first place lmfao. Do y'all really think the Catholic 7 are going to willingly put themselves right back in the same situation that they blew up the original BE over?

For the right amount of money, yes.

Do I think the ESPN would be willing to pony up "the right amount of money" for the big east in its entire entirety? No I do not.

They’d be crazy not to, but only a small handful of Big East schools would make the cut anyway. It might be as small as 2-3, but no more than 4-5.

Except this time they don't get to make the decisions. The football schools made a mistake the first time. When the conference turned down the contract the football schools should have told the basketball schools goodbye and left. They were a major reason for money, and could have easily expanded.

That is like comparing today's NFL to the leather helmet era.

UConn got stabbed in the back by multiple conference partners who we want to be in conferences with again. The basketball schools were not close to our biggest problem.

I get that this is a conference realignment board so discussing the Big 10 is fair game, but for the life of me I'm not sure what purpose this thread is supposed to serve? The B1G wins a lot of Olympic Sports. OK. They invest a ton and have good coaches and infrastructure. What does that have to do with realignment? Nobody is getting into any conference because they bring a strong field hockey or men's swimming program. Potential viewers both linear and streaming are likely 80-90% of the equation. After that there are a multitude of factors that make up the rest. These will probably differ quite a bit from one conference to another.

You don’t think Montevallo will get into the SEC because they have the best Bass Fishing Team?
