B1G 25-26

How about them Gophers! Beating USC. Huge win for Minnesota and Coach P!

I had visions of another Maryland game meltdown but they hung on. And their reward is to play #4 UCLA Wednesday. Such is the Big Ten. Going to be a wild ride.

This conference is totally unpredictable right now aside from UCLA. Don't be surprised if they lose to Rutgers before it's all over. 🤪
Don't tempt me....................................😏

You just want to post your chaos gif don't you. 😅
Hey.....I saw it over on the Cyclone board recently. It resonates with the people!!!!!

MLK day a huge day for the legacy BIG. Michigan vs Vandy and OSU vs TCU. 2 BIG wins could go a long way towards helping legacy BIG NCAA seeding and hopefully success.

Last year was a NCAA tournament disaster for the legacy BIG. After recent high water tournament success by Iowa, IU, Michigan and near peak success by OSU, the legacy BIG did nothing in the tourney last year. 3 Sweet 16s for the BIG by new newcomers UCLA and USC and newcomer MD, 2 Elite Eights by UCLA and USC, then F4 by UCLA. The legacy BIG teams (inc. PSU & Neb, exclude MD & RU) were just fodder pre-tournament for the LA schools, going 1-27 against USC/UCLA.

Man, I feel for Oregon. The Iowa game could have been a lot closer, or even possibly a win if that 3rd quarter hadn't gotten away from them. Iowa's defence did a great job making things difficult for Fiso, but Etute's motor against the likes of Stuelke and Heiden was impressive. Muhammed had a few moments as well. Regardless how this season plays out for Oregon, their future looks bright in my opinion.

Have there been any updates on Natalie Pott's situation for Nebraska? Her presence was definitely missed yesterday even though Nebraska had a chance to win the game against Michigan State. Wasn't surprised it was a tight game but the additional depth she provides could have made things more challenging for Sparty especially when VanSlooten was out early in the game due to foul trouble.

What to make of Gracie Merkle and the season she is having? Great individual stats when the team is horrendous (1-24 in last 25 conference games) are always hard to judge. And Gracie's limitations outside of shooting efficiency certainly contribute to losing (as individual player weaknesses tend to do). Still, she is potentially on track to have the most efficient shooting season in the history of NCAA WBB, and seems likely to be in the middle of the most efficient shooting season in BIG conference games history. Her progress will be worth watching and celebrating.

For the year, Gracie is shooting 75.5% (and averaging 19.2 ppg). Only 8 players in NCAA history with qualifying numbers of shots have ever shot 70% for a season, with Myndee Kay Larsen of Southern Utah the leader at 72.4%. Chantelle Anderson of Vanderbilt is the Power 4/5 all-time single-season leader at 72.3%.

In BIG conference games, Gracie is shooting 81.4% (and averaging 18.7 ppg). Only 2 players in BIG history with qualifying numbers of shots have ever shot 70% in conference play for a season: Brionna Jones at 70.7% and Monika Czinano at 70.3%. Gracie is on track, it seems, to obliterate the single season BIG conference games field-goal percentage record.

I also wonder how things would have worked out for Gracie at Maryland. Seemed like an odd marriage at the time, but could Brenda have found a way to make it work? Hard to know.

Nebraska message boards speculate she will sit out the whole season. HuskerOnLine reported yesterday: "The 6-foot-2 forward is still working on building up her leg muscles. She has been practicing some, but is not 100%. Head coach Amy Williams hasn’t given a timeline cause there likely isn’t one at this point.

Now, 17 games into the season, Nebraska is probably taking a hard look at whether Potts should redshirt or not. She used a medical redshirt in 2024-25, but also has a regular redshirt."

Appreciate this insight. Better she returns fully healthy versus not 100%.

Ok, after tOSU win over TCU today, it affirmed my belief that the Buckeyes are the 4th best team in this conference. UCLA is #1 by a lot, then Michigan and then begrudgingly, Iowa. I like what Jensen has done but I do think they are overranked in the top 10. I would then say Michigan State is solidly #5, gap then any number of teams on thr 6-10 ranking among Illinois, Washington,Oregon, Maryland or Nebraska with Minn, Wisconsin or SoCal lurking. I do know PSU, Rutgers and NW are the bottom 3 with Indiana and Purdue barely ahead of them. I wonder if the IU Athletic Director is regretting that million per year contract he gave Moren…

Moren had a nice run and she can coach. However, talent wins. Just rewatch the Maryland-UCLA game.

My Wolverines didn't play well in the first half--down 17--and had a lot of missed opportunities in the second half which led to a 69-72 loss to Vandy. They came up short but I still like this team a lot and know they'll grown from this outing. Congrats to Vanderbilt.

They needed more help in the paint today. Sofilkanich and Delfosse being a combined 8 points was a disappointment. If Dudley hadn't contributed off the bench, this game would have been a double digit loss.

Well, coaching includes getting the talent right? She just keeps having an exodus but no one coming in. You live this yearly, Brenda struggles to retain players but some how gets transfers in and just "reloads" yet Moren achieved her "run" with the combo of Holmes, Berger and a nice supporting cast but that was not replenished.

Brenda is over-achieving this year, lost players, added some and then injuries to Alexander and Smickle have hampered her yet, just like Gloria Gaynor sang so famously "I will survive"... 😘

Friese is definitely overachieving, however there is no one by the name Alexander on their roster this season. Having veterans like Poffenbarger and the addition of Okananwa have definitely helped this season.

Bri McDaniel is who I meant (name Bri Alexander kept popping in my mind)….along with Gloria Gaynor…

Agreed. Coach Pingeton has done a good job in year one with this program.
I think ESPN projections has not caught up with the program improvement. Oregon was favored at 82% or something ridiculous.
It was a 50-50 game.
Nebraska favored in upcoming game AT Wisconsin Kohl Center by 89 - 11%. Ummm
Not so sure of that.

I agree. It should be an interesting match up tonight.

Wow another Wisconsin win! How far off the radar are they for being an NCAA team? I know they have some not great losses but a resume of wins over Michigan State, Nebraska and Oregon is fantastic.
