All offense, no defense.

Yes, I'm on the right board. Although this post would make sense on the football board as well.

Kansas with 7 losses is still a 1 seed. They won their conference and have had a killer schedule but 7 freaking losses. We're still predicted as a 7 seed with 6 losses.

I appreciate their schedule, but seven losses is an ass ton for a one seed.

But then you look behind them.

Syracuse is staggering like a drunk at last call or, actually, like Syracuse in March. Duke, Louisville, Creighton, Nova, St. Louis?

I guess Kansas is a one seed.

Absurd as it sounds, Wisconsin has to be in the conversation for a one seed. They've quietly put together a very strong resume, with wins over Florida, St. Louis, Virginia, Iowa (x2), Michigan State, and Michigan. Aside from a cold stretch early in conference play, they've been as good as anybody.

When Witchita St with an RPI of 9 and a SOS of 119 is a lock for a 1 seed, you know it's a really down year. Most years, that kind of resume gets you a 3 seed at best. It's going to be a very interesting tourney where any of 20 to 25 teams wouldn't be a total surprise to win it all. Usually you can see 8 to 10 teams with a chance. Some years only a couple or at best 5. Perfect time for UConn to be not dominate - a punchers chance.

You know it is pretty wide open when the top 2 teams in the preseason poll might not be ranked the first Monday of March.

Kentucky being ranked No. 1 preseason was lunacy. They were a first round NIT loser last year with a great recruiting class on paper. Let them prove themselves a little first. Not like they added a great class to a good nucleus. The Davis-MKG class at least had Doron Lamb and Terrence Jones in place to fill around.

I wonder if next year they will finally take this into account and rank them much much lower preseason, where they should be (if at all).

there have been no great teams or at least very good teams since '09. Think about those teams and who were on them... UCONN, Louisville, Pitt, Cuse, Nova, UNC, MSU, Memphis, etc... I still think about how physically intimidating those uconn and lousiville teams where... ridiculous

That 2012 Kentucky team was pretty darn good mostly because of AD

Yeah, at first I wasn't putting '12 Kentucky in the "that's a darn good championship team historically speaking" category but they were pretty good because of their once-in-a-decade player in AD.

'10 Duke
'11 UConn
'13 Louisville

That group of champs is absolutely gross historically speaking. This year's champ may be the worst title team ever. Our '11 team probably wasn't one of the ten best/most talented teams we've ever had. That '10 Duke team probably wasn't one of the dozen-best teams Coach K has had. But that's the beauty of March Madness too.
