Commentators have often noted that many teams are beaten before they take the court. I think two things just occurred to reinforce that phenomenon.

.-.
You know you have a pretty good team when two of your starters are 1st team All American. Anyone know off-hand if UConn has had two 1st team All Americans in one year before this year? Any other team?
Well USBWA only started doing 3 teams (5 member - before that it was one 10 member team) in 2018-2019

In 2019-2020 Oregon had two 1st team and one 2nd team (Ruthy Hebard, Sabrinia Ionescu, Satou Sabally)

On the 10 member teams, UCONN has had 2-3 members a few times.

Every March and April the same topic arises: Huskies of Honor criteria.
Some say it is being named to the 10-member WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) All-America first team.
Graduating from UConn.
Others say being named to the USBWA AA first team (like this thread)?
Anyone know which AA team it really is?

My guess is that Azzi's jersey will be added next season, when she has free time to come back to Gampel, much like the ceremony for Aaliyah Edwards this season.

See post #13. UConn is the only team with multiple first-teamers in the same season.

So Sara will probably be an AA the next two years, but who else from UCONN over the next few years? According to Rebecca, by the time the current freshman class are seniors, Blanca will be the best in the class. That is for the entire NCAA.

Its the WBCA All American Team

Re the "official" AA criteria for induction into the Huskies of Honor:

I don't find anything definitively official on the UConn website or Wayback Machine or via AI. Making the WBCA 10-player AA team—formerly called the Kodak and State Farm AA team—is virtually always mentioned as a sufficient criterion in discussions and news reports.

The UConn women's basketball Media Guide does not mention the Huskies of Honor program, but does list players who have made AA teams sponsored by the AP and the USBWA along with the WBCA.

It's highly likely that every UConn player who has made either the AP or USBWA 5-player first team has also made the WBCA 10-player team. In the event that a player made one of those 5-player AA first teams but didn't make the WBCA 10-player team, I'd guess that Geno would induct her into the Huskies of Honor.

Graduating is also sometimes mentioned as a requirement for Huskies of Honor, but Renee Montgomery, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart and Paige Bueckers were all inducted while still active players. Paige, at least, already had her bachelors degree by that time. Not sure about the others.

Perhaps someone else can find and link the definitive AA criteria, if they officially exist.

That’s one possibility. The other could be during an on-campus celebration at Gampel of Championship #13 in a few weeks………just sayin…..

She’ll need to clean some stuff up, but the potential is there.

The announcer for our finals game on Monday called Blanca "a future All-American."
