Azzi mic-ed up at practice - good stuff

.-.
Love it.
I know it is just practice, but team grey looks pretty good and good to see Azzi being very vocal.
Yeah I agree. And also touche on it's just practice. I know I'm going to watch it 1k times and break it down way too much. In my head I'm like I think Azzi may have had the better team so, head up Sarah.

Last night, I watched the Texas - UConn game from Azzi's sophomore year. It was the second game of the season, before Azzi sustained her season ending injury. In the second half, she put the team on her back and really put on a show, dominating the entire second half. A healthy Azzi with Sarah, Serah and most likely the deepest team in Geno's entire UConn career will give Coach many different options pertaining to the style of play of the opposition. They have the versatility to play any style of basketball. I believe we have had teams with a deeper 1-5, but I don't know if we have ever had a team as deep 1-15 as this one. Practice will be fiscal and grueling. Can't wait to see them in action.

If that Azzi shows up this season, I’m not sure anyone can run with the Huskies.

I think it’s a pattern with Azzi to dominate (or even explode) in a half and then hand a huge lead off to her teammates. Sometimes it’s the second half, as in that Texas game. But more often it’s the first half. What we might see this season is Sarah, Azzi, Serah and Ash taking turns building that big lead in the first half.

Azzi was terrific in the Texas game. I distinctly remember her giving Sonya Morris (ex-DePaul) the Derek Henry stiff arm, dribbling the ball behind her back, and sinking the shot. You said practice will be "fiscal," is that because of NIL:cool:

Three things jumped out at me in this video. First, Kayleigh has nice pull up jump shot off the bounce. She is a solid all around player. Second, Jana is more fluid than last year and has a very soft touch from the left hand. Third, Ayanna looks so much stronger than I ever could remember. It will be interesting to watch Geno mold this squad during the season and roll out a great team in March.

Ayanna at the high post. Quick pass to Ash cutting across a quick pass to Jana for a quick layup.

Next time Ayanna hit Ash cutting across it was a quick jump shot from the center of the lane.

Made me smile.

Hopefully we’ll be able to see practice clips this summer. :)

Seeing Yanna out there making good plays is making me smile, she truly was such a gifted athlete coming out of high school so I have always wanted her to reach her full basketball potential.

She has the athleticism of Aubrey in a significantly larger frame. It’s just a matter of improving her ability to finish around the rim and then she’ll become a staple of the transition offense. Geno seems to love having bigs who can run the floor in transition and if Ayanna gets minutes next to Sarah he could have two more. And if Serah has the mobility to run in transition he might have a third. Ice has the speed to run the court but she doesn’t seem to have the finishing skills, and Jana needs to improve in both areas. But Ayanna is perhaps the most athletic player on the team.

I can see there will be some confusion between Jana and Yanna.
Well,, maybe only from Swedish fans.

Team Blue must be good too- Caroline, Sarah, Serah, KK, who else?
It looked like Allie Z and the freshman (Kellis and Gandy) were on that team. I think it was pretty balanced, although it kinda looked like Azzi dapped up KK and she was wearing gray at the end.

Put her basketball skills aside for a minute: That is a different Azzi out there...talking/
teaching/motivating/a lil' sass thrown in....I love it!
Absolutely. We are going to see a more aggressive, determined Azzi taking a leadership role on the floor in 2025-26. She has worked through injuries and is more than ready to show everyone that she is a lot more than just a 3-pt shooter. Take a look again at her defense in the FF. She was relentless. 2024-25 was Paige's time. 2025-26 will be Azzi's. NPOY? We'll see.

Last season everybody had maybe written the Dogs off by February. We'll have a testing nonconference schedule, but I doubt we'll be were the team sat last February. We will be back to where we were a decade ago: everybodies biggest game. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened in the NCAAs but I doubt that was lost on any D! ball player. UConn made the NCAAs look like the bottom half of the Big East. And we have more weapons. I loved seeing the weapons get acquainted.
