Syracuse is a huge disappointment this season after what they did last year. Watching them consistently lose winnable games to “lesser” teams has been exhausting. They just look completely lost out on the floor. Not sure how much of that is on the coaches and how much of it is on the players (and their talent level/basketball IQ).
What a shame. I’ve been regretting my season ticket (with floor upgrade) purchase since November.
Not sure what it will take to right the ship.
From an opposition standpoint, I've also been perplexed and a bit disappointed in the "Cuse this year.
On one hand, they lost two players to eligibility, Alaina Rice and, of course, Dyaisha Fair who was the leader and go-to everything for that team. Howver, they also lost forward Alyssa Latham who had a stellar freshman year and looked set to have Liatu King-like performances for the Orange. But she transferred to another team that wears orange, Tennessee. Not sure this has benefitted she or the 'Cuse in that she only plays 13 minutes per game in Knoxville.
But this doesn't explain the lack of cohesiveness that you (and I) have witnessed. I might suggest that the absence of Sue Ludwig on the bench could also be a factor. Ludwig was a great high school coach who joined Legette-Jack when Coach Jack took over the reins. Don't know what role she played per se, but the team just looks off on details, something a former high school coach would stress.
Coach Legette-Jack will lose some more players after this year. She's got Sophie Burrows retuning, who has skills and moxie, but who will fill in the blanks?
